With Lallana and Guly/Chaplow wide, our formation effectively turns into a 4222 with most of the width coming from our fullbacks. While Fox and Richardson are decent, they're not Alba and Arbeloa. They don't have the pace to control the flanks on their own. We're not Barcelona either and when buying players, we're likely to have to make compromises between pace, quality and consistency. Unless pre-season magically turns Luke Shaw into Gareth Bale (fwiw, I wouldn't rule it out) it looks like we'll need to mix things up and have some width higher up the pitch.

In fairness, Arbeloa isn't nearly as good as people say.
 
Adam Blackmore tweeted this morning about the Buttner deal being up to saints, and could be called off. He said that he doesn't think Cortese will have like being messed around and that he may tease them and make them weight or could totally pull the plug on the deal.
 
Where have people got this impression its going to be a signing that is announced today?!? Have I missed something.

Press Conference will cover....

MLC - Adkins 'exciting, players excited, give few youngsters a go.
Davis/Rangers - Adkins 'working to resolve it but he is our player'.
Buttner - Adkins 'A slight hitch but things still going on behind scenes, we will see.
Other signings - 'The work that goes on behind the scenes is fantastic and we are working to bring in players that will enhance SFC.
 
Won't be Butland as it's only a couple of days since his last comment in the press about needing first team football and we all know how grindingly slow Saints signings are. Suspect it's about the ML Trophy...gaining a bit of publicity and to make sure none of us forget him...as if we could. Will give Adkins a chance to mention vague plans for the season. What's the chance he mentions this wonderful football club being back where it belongs.<laugh>

Yep pretty much spot on. Simon Peach has said he'll ask specifically about Clyne. I'm expecting "We're looking at a number of players, working very hard behind the scenes, and hopefully we'll be able to bring in a few people to the building soon". Though, when asked about Jack Cork at the start of last season, he did say "Yep, we're the only team with a bid accepted for him so we'll see how that goes".

I was lucky enough to have a mate live out there for a fair few years , so a couple of holidays softened the blow of moving I suppose. It's not as strict as people report in the news, just use common sense like anything else and you would be fine. The heat takes some getting use to though.
