All this talk about Clyne v Richardson - i know it is conjecture but we havent signed him yet! unless of course I missed something...

Have we discussed if Clyne is going to be a right winger ahead of Richardson, or the other way round? I doubt it, but you never know...

Also, Buttner can play RB so maybe he is to be our RM alas Lallana on LM...who can also cover both wing back positions...

I honestly don't know where this myth started. Yes he is slow compared to Clyne but so are a lot of people. I dont recall him being done for pace every week by a stream of left wingers or failing to join attacks and offer an overlap to RM.
In terms of strength Richardson is probably one of the toughest at the club and dominates Clyne. I would say at this stage they are even
Competition for places. Did Clyne depose Butterfield at Palace?

Agreed. Just because we sign a player it doesn't mean he is a direct replacement for somebody. Competition for places is largely the reason we have been successful in recent years. It would be down to our current players to raise their levels again and i think they will too.

Ricky made mincemeat of Marriapa when we played Watford last season so not disappointed. Hopefully he'll do the same when we play Reading!

So just down from the Clyne story (if four sentences constitute a story) on the Mirror link is a headline that states "Let's watch Miranda Kerr stroke her bum while wearing her bra and knickers". It's rare to see two such well written articles on the same page.....

Nothing against this Buttner kid, but I have not been convinced by the whole thing since I first heard about it. He may well be a good player but it's just a feeling I have. And I think we could do better. Clyne would be a good addition a good young english lad with plenty of time to mature and learn the trade, I would be willing to Zaha a shot aswell he indeed has potential to be a top player, but out of the two I would much prefer Clyne.

As for this "signing" were making today. I think it will be Butland, I think the deal was completed ages ago after it went all quiet.

You base this on nothing more than a whim, give him a chance

I wonder how much he would be worth if he proves to play a good part in a prem team after we get him for a compensation fee.. I would think it would be quite alot.. hears hoping he signs.

With Lallana and Guly/Chaplow wide, our formation effectively turns into a 4222 with most of the width coming from our fullbacks. While Fox and Richardson are decent, they're not Alba and Arbeloa. They don't have the pace to control the flanks on their own. We're not Barcelona either and when buying players, we're likely to have to make compromises between pace, quality and consistency. Unless pre-season magically turns Luke Shaw into Gareth Bale (fwiw, I wouldn't rule it out) it looks like we'll need to mix things up and have some width higher up the pitch.
