Sonny Bradley & Emerton have gone to Sweden on loan for 2 months. Although i aren't certain, i believe Danny has been offered a new contract as well.
Febbos told us that Bradley was going to Sweden on loan, but then he was on the bench for us a week later, so I assumed he hadn't gone, but he's on the club wiki page as being on loan in Sweden(no mention of Emerton anywhere that I've seen, anyone know which club? Febbos?) Sonny Bradley (at IK Frej until the end of the 2010–11 season)
i thought as much with bradley, didnt hear about emerton...these two always seem to get good reviews so i was suprised to hear they may be gettin released
This is becuase lets be honest man utd reserve players are always going to be better than ours which is why he goes to their 18 yr olds and not ours. Shame, but fact of life im afraid
I know what you mean and I wouldn't want those ex Man U players not in the team, they are great but I still think it is tough for any young player coming through from the City youth. I just wonder how many of them get to even train with the first team. It will be interesting to see next season how many make it into team.
It's a shame for the young lads being released but if they are deemed not good enough, they only need to look at a certain Deano of the Tigers who was released once upon a time and what he went on to do after getting the boot? The comments about the Man U players are sad but true, with the odd exception they are usually very talented to be in that set-up and have been playing with fantastic players and maybe worth a punt a lot of the time.
Conor Townsend is a good young prospect, quick, good attitude and a very good LEFT foot. These type of youngsters are always in short supply. Deffo worth a punt, hope he can become a good left back cos we certainly need one.
I too am surprised about Emerton and Bradley. I wonder if the Oxley decision is contract based. Bearing in mind the money we paid for him and the delusions of gradure (or possibly brown envelopes) which presided at the time, I wonder if next season had an automatic trigger in it? I am surprised about Wilkinson also, although having seen the young lad from York now, maybe his presence has something to do with it. The other 'unknown' on the horizon of course is the expensive youngster, Barlow, from Grimsby. Was his potential as good as the money we are investing suggests or was it just another lining for an offshore savings account somewhere. Anyone seen Barlow play?
As I have said elsewhere, maybe on this thread actually but I cant be arsed to scroll back to look, I wonder how Billy Russell has kept his job so long without any obvious signs of success over a long period of years. In a results driven business this surprises me. Again, I would also point out that I dont know Billy Russell and he seems like a nice enough bloke, but I know if I only had his success rate to fall back on in my job, then indeed I wouldnt have a job to look back on if you know what I mean?
I suspect in the most recent years our rise through the leagues hasn't helped players coming through. If the next lot coming through are much better than the 16/17 year olds we've got now is it a surprise? They start joining clubs at what 11(?) so 5/6 years ago. 1st year in the Championship, Leeds are still a much better looking prospect long term and having come down from the PL with debts will be looking to their youth system. You're not going to join us over them are you? The following season Leeds get relegated to L1 and we recruit the next bunch that look like being miles better. For a time we even had Scunthorpe and Grimsby in a position to compete with us and be a better option for kids to go to. I'm also curious as to how many players have come through any lower league side's youth setup in the same time to establish themselves as regulars in L1 or L2? Huddersfield have got a lot come through either to their side or other sides in the lower leagues but they were mainly the recruits before they dropped to D3.
There aren't many clubs that have successful academies at the moment, the Man United and Arsenal academies have players coming into the first team, but they haven't come through in big numbers since the Beckham, Scholes, Giggs, Neville era. West Ham and Leeds used to have good academies, but not in recent years, from memory I seem to remember the club with the most players that made it from their academy to their starting XI was Boro.
Danny emerton and sonny bradley have actually been offered new deals i am friends with sonny bradley and i know him and emerton have gone to sweden for 2 months so they've been offered new deals utt
You're right about boro, they are big on their youth. I think at one point this season all of their back 5 were academy lads. You only have to look at players like stewie downing and adam johnson to realise they must be doing something right with their youth.
