Spot on TC and I would add Portsmouth to the list. I would rather follow our model and not be burdened with massive debt and if we can achieve PL survival, then I'll feel that CH has done a good job. I think it may be difficult, as the promoted teams are quite strong and are prepared to 'throw money' at staying up.
Superb post Thai. I also seem to remember QPR fans getting very excited when Briatore and Ecclestone came along? Within months they were calling for their heads. You'd think they would of learnt, wouldn't you?!
Every team that "gets rich" has the same outlook "our rich guy is different from all the rest, you'll see!" It invariably fails, and the era for doing this kind of thing ended a couple of years ago. Man city will be the last "big spender" club. An age of prudence through ffp is just around the corner and all QPR will be left with is broken promises and a wage bill out the arse.
well best we all stand by... today its forest and leeds with the big money investors through the doors! prepare yourselves for some serious nonsense being spouted by their fans about how they will 'do a man city'
I too recall that time and they were being touted as one of the richest clubs in the country. Myself, along with many others were expecting to see them romp the Championship but it took 4-5 seasons (was it that long? Might have been less) to gain promotion what was delivered certainly did not match the euphoria that went with the takeover by those two. I do think TF will deliver more than those two clowns (not hard to do I suspect) and with greater ambitions comes a greater risk and it saddens me (I think that is the best way to put it) that so many QPR fans on here see such comments as nothing more than being negative about their club. Such remarks are not negative, they are a reality.
The thing is canary, even that you may be realistic about our team and plans for future, they are quite one-sided opinions. Not one of you canary-boys have wrote nothing positive about Fernandes. The same goes when you are writing about our future plans. In your opinion there's absolutely no chance to succeed. Has anybody even thought the situation and the state of the club and the team when Fernandes came on board? The season had already started and the transfer window was about to close. TF gave the money to Warnock almost by the last minute, so the signings were'nt so much measured as they should be. The teams state was unstable until february-march. Future season will be different and Hughes have his players in time. Theres no excuse next season and if we go down and Fernandes threats about leaving the boat i sincerely admire your wise words. Until then i believe that we are going to the right direction. A bit of ambition never hurts anyone as long you know your limits. I dont know our limits, you canary-boys surely dont know it but Fernandes, Mittals, Beard, Riggs and Hughes might know a bit.
that's the point igor, the chairmen etc of all the teams i mentioned were in a far better position than you or i to decide if they could really aford to push the boat out to chase plan, and they failed. Nowhere have i suggested QPR will go the same way but you cannot rule out the possibility because you want to believe.
I would also add that my comments are based on what has happened to other clubs of a similar stature to our two clubs, they are not simply anti QPR or anti TF comments designed to wind you or any other QPR fan up. Perhaps us canaries have very different outlook as we nearly went to the wall just a few years ago.
I agree with that canary. As long theres peoples and money involved anything can happen. More than that my club is QPR so everything is possible between heaven and hell, thats what i've learned in those 40 years as a supporter. However now i have positive vibes about this Fernandes-Mittals QPR because with Mittal involved theres money to spend (at least more than you may suggest) Ok, money is one thing but even more important thing is the knowhow and we have purchased that with shape of Phil Beard and Mike Rigg. Mark Hughes is good manager. Ok, maybe he is not quite like Mourinho, Ferguson or Guardiola but good premier league level anyway. Some of you have wrote , that QPR is like old pension home with some of the signings we have made already for future season. With possible signings of Hoilett and Kim Sung Yeung that should not be the case anymore. Still, i appreciate that you canary-boys keep our rangers-fans feets firmly on the ground and vice versa.
Igor, may I ask a personal question, it's obvious from the way that you write almost in broken English, that you're not an Englishman living in Finland, so let me have a wild stab-in-the-dark and guess that you are Finnish, how did you end up supporting QPR? Not meant to be rude, I'm genuinely curious!
Thank you for asking canary dave. It's nothing special, just in early seventies we have the chance to watch english league football due tv broadcasting in finland. As a young boy i discovered a hooped shirt team that was playing beautiful football in the english second division. Names like Bowles, Venables, Francis, Givens, Thomas etc. were my football heroes in those days. Having seen them numerous times at Loftus Road i still follow them due internet almost everyday.
That's a great story Igor, and you obviously picked a good time to start watching! There are some wonderful footballers named there. Best of luck for next season, apart from the two obvious ones!
Very simple rule, which applies to much of life, that covers this situation very nicely: Aim for success, but plan for failure. (They could put that up on a sign at Carrow Road as it's pretty much the way our board has viewed things in recent years)
Dave I'm starting to worry you've gone all soft and appreciative of qpr I preferred it when you were a miserable ******* Don't let me down now mucker
Well let's see if we get it right? One thing for sure it's not dull being QPR. In terms of money I have great faith that the business will be sustainable. Can we do it on the pitch who knows? How much is beefforhire's day rate? I have a badly inserted tampon that could with some attention
