All very well getting rid of Steve Bruce, but who would you want in his place, who would be the best option, as I have said before, if St Niall & Pope Ellis want to show me were heading in the right direction I would want either Jose Mourhino or Rafa Benitez, certainly not Martin O'Neil. Rafa Benitez was'nt the sole problem behind Liverpool's fall, a lot of garbage was happening behind the scenes as well
"Martin O'Neill spotted in Seaham Hall, Newcastle Airport and the AOL at the same time." Every manager under threat for us and the "top sauces" are at work with that same old line.... I say KTF in Bruce til the end of the season. We won't go down. Confident...just about.
Bill how am i being a Newark? Is it cos I question the much lauded Chestermackem or is it cos i am asking him about his last prediction that was wrong? He is adding fuel to the fire. I hope you go down this road then if you want a new manager every 2 year n sack people on a whim. You will give the new boss 30 million ro make it 'his' teamand then your on the road to ruin. 3 months ago Chestermackem had the Eurobus booked n people said Brucie would be next Man U manager. Carry on with this. We will enjoy watching the ensuing fallout!!! Its your move supporters....
Benitez is a great manager, he got ****ed over at the end. His buying became sketchy, but he won champions league, and his Valencia yeam was stunning.
Yes Beak they are 2 great managers but they are top Eoropean bosses and I personall think there is no chance of them comin to the likes of Sunlun, Newcastle or the like. Just being realistic and not a Newark as bigbill would say...
I'm inclined to agree with you, but there would be a chance on Benitez. He ain't getting Man United, Arsenal or Chelsea job. Tottenham are more than delighted with twitch. I think Mancini will be safe so long as City are top 4, if not, i could see them going for someone like Hiddink. Moyes could leave Everton, that'd be interesting, as clearly Rafa loves the city of Liverpool. That leaves the next group, us, Villa, yourselves, Stoke, Bolton. He could fancy it. Fot thr record, i don't want him, i'll stick to my guns and say if we do replace Bruce (and i'm cooling towards him now as we head away from Saturdays debacle), i'd want Van Gaal, if i had the choice.
I dont see ES or SNQ getting rid of Bruce, not their style but I do see a meeting taking place and Bruce being told he has the next 6 games to save his job.
Believe me Syd, a self made multi billionaire who is used to success and high achievement will have no qualms about sacking a man who is failing to deliver on his targets. If Ellis thinks it's time, Bruce will be tossed to the wolves in an eyes blink.
I think you've got that spot on BB........... part of the package with Mr Short........... support, cash and not affraid to cut out a cancer
how much would it cost to get rid of Bruce? Before you answer these are the men who sold Bent to make a quick buck. If they were such good buinessmen then they would have had a replacement lined up or made Bent wait till the end of the season, by which time his value would have increased bearing in mind the Carroll and Torres fees. If Short is flying in from his London home(not quite as dramatic eh) it would be to apologise to Bruce for putting him in the position of being without his star striker, resorting to type(small club mentality) and promising not to seek & heed the advice of Bob Murray again(a la Don Hutchison). Bruce may not be blameless for where we are but he is far from being the only one to blame for the slump in form - and to refer to Bruce as "cancer" is just plain sick.
Mackemman, hope i did not offend you.... turn of phrase and my opinion.... perhaps Bruce went to SNQ and Mr Short and said... "look lads there is this killer striker that I think I can get, will only cost the club 20 or 30 mil hes the next rooney but only better looking. Defo get us into europe"...... "Okay" says Mr Short, "but you'll have to sell first, are you sure you can get this lad?" "Aye easy mr Short, he'll come for sure... Bent's been a bit of a twat recently.... good when he turns up but cannot be arsed most of the time.... we'll get a few bob for him" says Bruce. "Well if you are sure Brucey boy.... i have faith in you.... don't let me down, canny lad" agreed Mr Short trying to fit in a bit more with a spot of lingo he picked up on not606.
They had to let a player, who was already engineering a move away from our club, who saved his arse from Spurs bench,go! Unless you know something the rest of us don't!
I don't believe they had to let Bent go - it was little club mentality - all they had to say was we will review it at the end of the season - Bent would have still played his heart out - if only to cement his England place., imo. Villa got him on the cheap, we were a striker down with injuries to Campbell & Welbeck, this move was only good for Bent and our accountants, it was certainly not for the benefit of the club or the supporters from a footballing point of view(let alone the shirts sold with Bent on the back). I don't believe Bruce has anyone of a similar calibre of Bent lined up. Should we have just bitten the bullet and paid him more money(and increased the wage structure for others) conditional upon us qualifying for the Europa league?
Mackemman your last para was wot i would do. Look at the fall out since he went. As for Bruce havin a class striker lined up i doubt it. Unless a Rodellaga type is class nowadays.
Syd,Bent was not playing that well when everything kicked off,but the results and "fall-outs" since then have been horrendous..and what did Bent's love-life with Bruce's daughter have to do with things,if you believe the national newspapers??The mind boggles, but nowt has been right since Bent left!!
Losing a player like Bent does make a difference. It doesn't matter what position you play in. If you make a mistake that costs a goal, you still know if you keep playing and get it up front, there's a good chance that guy will claw it back for you. It takes the pressure off everyone. When you lose a player like that every other player on the field misses him.
I am a big Bent fan but I know that all season he was not right and whatever the reason was would we have done the right thing keeping him, I'm not sure.
We obviously do not know the whole story about Bent, but I think Capello had a lot to do with it, after 2 games, 2 goals, 30 touches of the ball, 2 in the box, where he scored from both, he said he was a lot better player, hmm what???? I dont really know what the answer is, but why, and its not just 2 seasons in a row but 4-5 (maybe even more) our midfielders just cant hit the target/play a good final ball/set piece/score (when they do its great, but it doesnt happen often enough). Not sure how many of Bents goals were pens, but i bet it was a few. I dont think its a problem with the strikers as such, its our Midfield, not saying they are usless, but they do tend to hold onto the ball too long, or just pass it sideways a lot (which is fine if you are going forward a bit with it and with intent, but with us its not most of the time). But how can you keep a player who doesnt want to be here, he may still have not scored, and we might still be in the ****e lol (and he may have caused even more upset in the dressing room, if there is even any upset at the minute)
