I was, yet again, listening to Talk5hite this evening and it was absolutely beautiful! They were doing a phone-in for Gooners to express their views regarding RVP's announcement that he believes AFC to be absolute ****e, and how he wants to leave to win things. Some of them were so bitter, they would have made lemons taste sweet! I thought one caller was going to hang himself on air. it was superb! I've been waiting for this moment for two years. We all knew AFC has been a spent force for years, now. And whilst their fans will bleat on about how we blew a 10 point lead last season, the few intelligent ones will know that we've been steadily improving on them for several seasons, and that it's only a matter of time before we leave them in our wake. RVP played a blinder for them last season, to such an extent that there's no way he'll have another season like that. Even if he'd stayed, I doubt he'd have been as effective for them, but the fact that he's leaving, in the wake of Naz & Fab and so many others is a major dent to their arrogance, and a real slap across their smug faces. Who's going to predict that they'll finish top 4 next season? I'm certainly not. Bye bye Arsenal, and good riddance! One question, though. As there are no other teams in North London, will Enfield Town become our closes rivals, locally?
Level-headed as always Ammaar. I have to say that you have done remarkably well to get Podolski and Giroud in early, even without Van Persie these two on paper could potentially be one of the top strike pairings in the league. You will miss Van Persie obviously, but with these two on board you probably have much more reliable forward options, rather than just pinning all your hopes on one player. If I were Arsenal i'd cash in on RVP this summer and work on strengthening your midfield, that is the true weakness of your side. Your team without RVP but with 2 good strikers and a more talented midfield ought to be stronger than your team was last year with RVP. Your problem has been the same for some time now, IMO. Balance - it's a problem that we suffered from for too long , also. Wenger, just can't, or won't, see that you can't fill a team with Fabregas, Nasri, wishere, Ramsay, etc and then have a defence that is full of holes, plus a strike force of one man who was often injured. The number of times that you would give away leads, leak embarrassing goals was a source of much delight, and amusement for us Spurs fans. Ironically enough, the foundations of what was probably your best balanced side, was inherited by Wenger. You may be too young to remember, but the old Arsenal back 4 Adams, Keown, Dixon, etc were as reliable as clockwork. To that Wenger added Vieira and Petit, as cover in front of what was already a reliable defence, anyway. He then added the likes of Bergkamp and Overmars up front. The result was a side that was as solid defensively as any I've ever seen, and yet still carried a potent threat going forward. Somehow, Wenger lost sight of the importance of that balance. Until you get it back, you may continue to struggle to improve your position that much.
Well considering your predictions for the previous season, that does assure me. We should be good for 2nd or 3rd then.
Considering how close the margin was for 3rd/4th last season it was just our luck that RVP happened to play more matches that season for AFC than in any previous season! I remember waiting in expectation for the usual injury that never happened. I don't think even the most loyal AFC supporter would suggest they would have got 3rd without him. Just add it to the (long) list of things that went against us! I'm not sure how I'd feel if I was them. On one hand he has really left them in the lurch in the manner of announcement, on the other eight seasons is probably way above average from what you could expect of a modern footballer. Also (and I've some sympathy with them here), it's very strange reading to hear that he's got an opinion (and apparently expected consultation) on the future strategy of the club... you might argue what has it got to do with him? Player power gone mad.
He made 38 starts last season, before that he made 111 in 7 years. As funny as it is to see Arsenal players desert them, its another example of a greedy footballer being a total ****er.
Agree. Especially as they stood by him when he was accused of Rape a while back. No loyalty these days. Apparently they have offered him £130k pw, so it's not like he would have starved if he had stayed on.
And you say your not obsessed about Arsenal your post will make a great sig for next season especially because you predicted something similar last season and was embarrassed badly
After the initial "yay, they're losing their best player" feeling i actually feel quite sorry for Arsenal fans now. As Spurs fans we all know what it feels like when your best players do this, and it isn't nice. RvP was not-a-lot when he started at Arsenal and then spent the best part of 5-6 years being injured. Arsenal stuck by him, the fans stuck by him, and he eventually became their talisman and captain. How does he repay them? By pissing on them. What an utter ****er.
You don't need to be obsessed to have a view on RvP handing in his notice. It is actually quite a big story.

To be fair to him, King. He's given Arsenal 8 years - 7 of those winning nothing. Maybe at 28 he genuinely feels that his chances of bagging silverware before he retires, are better elsewhere. I mean if you were ambitious to win major trophies, could you see it happening at Arsenal anytime soon?
He said he was waiting for it for 2 years, that strikes me as very obsessed especially considering that it is not news even related to his club
