The fact is AVB clearly has the potential to be a great manager which he showed at Porto and yes at Chelsea he didn't earn the respect of the old guard or any of the players that weren't portuguese. His tactics though were shocking. You would have thought that he would have realised that passing it around the back and not attacking when one nil down to Everton or WBA is not the right way to go about it. He was tactically inept. Plus his treatment on some players was disgraceful.

what ever way you look at it his man management skills were severely lacking and if the better part of the team feel that they are being played wrongly, they are bound to under perform, the team will not function, so to call players traitors is totally wrong.

and because he made us play off the half way line he is responsible for the gooners putting 5 past us!! at home!! that is his chelsea epitaph, the more you think about him the worse he gets and if the players did get him outed, well done to them !!

The same players derided by some fans are the same ones putting their bodies on the line and giving their all in games like the Barca and Bayern matches. We are European Champions becuase of these players and in spite of the damage largely caused by AVB.

Cole, Lampard, Terry, Drogba, Cech etc are Chelsea legends. Fact.

You don't become inept overnight, and you can't balance a squad that doesn't want to know. I see where you are going but simply don't think the problem was with the manager, his tactics or his man management skills. Not a peep from anyone about him lacking such skills before he came to Chelsea, apparently he lost all his abilities the moment he walked in our door.
If its as you say about Ashley Cole then shame on him anyway, he's paid to do as he's told, not to decide when and who he'll play for. and that's the problem with all of them, big headed, too used to calling the shots.

Big move, he needs it to pay off... As someone said, can't live off the Porto success for too long.

    100% agree.

If you listen to the views of some of the players he had at Porto, they can't speak highly enough of AVB and his man-management skills. We all know that we have the most difficult bunch of senior players around. They have way too much influence over what happens at the club and have been indulged for far too long. Yes, they were brilliant in winning the CL (JT apart), but remember - if they hadn't liked Robbie then they simply wouldn't have played for him. That says it all about them for me.

As for whether he'll be a success at Spuds, well who knows? I thought he'd look to take a job away from English football next up, where the pressure wouldn't have been so great. Fair play to him for having the balls to go straight back into the lion's den - he didn't need to do it, so it shows character. Obviously, I don't wish him too much success due to where he's ended up, but it wouldn't surprise me greatly if he turns out to be a good appointment.

i dont understand this defence of him, he was inept, if he wasn't the first thing he would of done would of been to get these senior players on his side, but he couldn't or did not want to. so any way you look at it surely he was inept.

I wish AVB all the best, but I wish 5pu1s all the worst, if that is possible.

He wasn't hired to "get them onside", he was hired to get shot of them. They shouldn't have been "off side " anyway, but we're because they knew why he was hired.
The management caved in when the results went belly up, and that was ,long term, the worst thing they could have done.
Winning the CL merely covered up the problem, and put off the inevitable for some other poor sod to clean up.
The trouble is a long way from over. Hope Robby has thick skin.

I think the so called 'player power' out our club is something that seperates us from most clubs and has enabled us to be so successful. Our big players take responsibility and has meant that with temporary managers we have reached 2 c.l finals winning one and won 2 fa cups in a period when say arsenal have won nothing.

We can't have it both ways. We expect these big players to lead by example and die for the cause but don't expect them to say something when the manager is costing us points with his team selection and tactics?!?!

AVB didn't become inept overnight per se but this is a guy whose only been a manager for 2 seasons and at Porto was in charge of the best side in the country with the most resources. He done well but hardly means he is a great manager for one good season.

Just can't understand how you can take the side of a guy who was in charge for a few games over the players who had led to our most successful period in our history. Lampard FFS. Probably Chelsea's greatest ever player and deserves some bloody respect.

He was hired to see Chelsea through transition whilst still maintaining results...not to piss of half the first team and leave us languishing in 6th!! He knew the job he took on and was frankly out of his depth.
