So what do us Chelsea fans think of the imminent appointment of AVB at Spurs?

At Chelsea he was tactically inept. I was at the Hawthorns for his last match and we showed no endeavour to get the first goal and even when they scored, we kept on passing the ball around the back without any urge to score. Granted he did well at Porto but with our players and in the best league in the world, he failed miserably. It will be interesting to see how he does but obviously it would be great to see him make Spurs a sinking ship! He could win them the Europa League!
 
I think he will do ok at spurs, no where near the same pressure and the bloke is no idiot so i am sure that he has learnt a bit from his time at chelsea. I can not wait till we play them, its going to add some real spice
 
AVB and Spurs deserve each other. Didn't like him. He came in and went to war with the players. Complete tool.
No tactical nous and had us defending far too high up the pitch.
I know that some of the players have to shoulder some of the blame but you have to ask why they turned against him.

It will certainly add spice! He was tactically wrong in all departments when he was with us. I don't see him changing Spurs straight away and I don't see them as a threat next season with him in charge tbh.
 
I've seen nothing to suggest AVB is this great manager some believe he is. He won a 2 team league and won the Europa with by far the strongest squad in the competition bar maybe City who had no experience at that level.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was Ramos mark 2. Unlike Chelsea there is no expectation to win anything or achieve anything significant at Spurs so AVB would see out 18 months at least but I don't see it ending well.

And before I'm accused of bias or bitterness by any lurking Spuds I did say when Ancelotti was sacked unless we appointed Hiddink it was a guaranteed slide for us down the table.

I don't think Arry is a particularly great manager but at least you can guarantee reasonable finishes under him (4th-6th). Given how strong Newcastle are. The fact that Liverpool are bound to strengthen significantly and also have a new manager. There is no guarantee Spurs will finish in the top 6 IMO.

AVB is an absolutely huge gamble. If he approaches this job as he did with us I guarantee it goes tits up. But I think he's too arrogant to change his ways and will go in head first. Spurs players lack the intelligence and experience that Chelsea players have when under pressure. And also I don't think AVB will devalue the Europa as much as Arry did and he"ll go out to try and win it which will only hurt them in the league even more

If he doesn't provoke a senior player revolution like he did here, he'll be a trophy winner at 3PL! Not sure which one but they'll become a side to be reckoned with!
 
Not sure if he will do well tbh.

Couple of things for me;

....he does not appear to be a strong/forceful personality; when he is being interviewed he struggles to gain/maintain eye contact. Not the usual sign of a leader.

...he clearly has some man-management issues. Whatever happened behind the scenes and whoever was to blame he could not deal with the sitaution. Not the sign of a good leader.

...he is so slow to react, so slow he often doesn't even react at all. During games were it was clearly going tits-up he often did absolutely nothing. Not the sign of a good leader.
 
The difference with you and the Spurs is that they have a younger squad. They have no recent history of great success and will therefore give him some scope time-wise.

After the great win over the European element you may see a few changes being made by your new manager. He has earned a chance to forge a new look squad and could be with you for some time if he starts as well this season as he ended the last.

Chelsea 25 and under - Luiz, Ramires, Hazard, Marin, Romeu, Mata, Mikel, Lukaku, McEachran, Sturridge, Hutchinson, Bertrand, Kakuta, PVA, De Bruyne

Plenty of youth ther to work with <ok>

Chelsea players 30 and over - Cech, Cole, Lampard, Malouda, JT, Hilario,Ferreira

Spurs Players 30 and over - Gomes, Cudicini, Friedel, G*llas, Parker

Spurs only have 6 players under 25 And under Exactly who has the ageing squad again?

Bale, Walker, Lennon, Huddlestone, Sandro, GDS, Rose, Livermore. I could add way more if players like Kakuta and Hutchinson count too.

Regardless of age, our squad is better suited to playing high lines and attacking football that AVB likes. I'm sure we can agree AVB is a big and unnecessary risk though.

To be honest, if you don't challenge for the top 4 it really doesn't matter if you finish 5th-10th. Liverpool were a long way off last season and I can't see Rodgers with his squad of players that don't suit passing football turning it around in one season, on a small budget. With regards to Newcastle, we've yet to see whether they'll add the necessary depth needed but yes, you'd be foolish to dismiss them.

What makes you think he'll go all out to win the Europa League? Because he won it at Porto? He also won the league and everything else going there so clearly he didn't have to sacrifice anything or show any priority. Slanted presumptions as usual :D

How is yours any different? The immediate assumption Liverpool will be poor as will Newcastle surely is wishful thinking rather than reality.

Liverpool are a long way off from what they were 3/4 years ago even but there is no way they will do as badly next season. It's worth pointing out that If Liverpool had beaten Arsenal at Anfield (as they should have done) they would have been 3/4 points behind them. In the end it never worked out but I don't believe they are as far off top 5/6 as some may believe. Rodgers is a gamble but he is a far better manager than Dalglish and Arry is a far better manager than AVB.

AVB didn't work with some of those. You can only compare the current Spurs squad with the one AVB inherited and that was Lampard, Terry, Drogba, Anelka et al. I am sure if he had Hazard, Marin and the rest he would have fared differently.

Liverpool are poor, they finished 17 points off us last season and whilst they might improve they're a long way off where we were last season. Plus to use your logic(read: guessing) Rodgers will definitely be distracted by the Europa League so any improvements in the squad won't improve their league form as they'll be distracted. Rodgers might do well, who knows? Anyone reasonable can see that a new, inexperienced manager is a gamble and it's not unreasonable to expect Rodgers impact to take longer than a year to truly show. As a Chelsea fan I'm sure that might be difficult to understand managers don't tend to get a full year at yours.

I never said Newcastle will be poor, just that their squad is thin and there is yet to be indication that they will be remedying that so it's far too early to be expecting them to do be worse or better than last season.

Don't talk to me about wishful thinking and reality when you clearly don't know the difference yourself <laugh>
 
AVB is a much better manager than most on here give him credit for.
He was totally shafted at Chelsea. The revolt of the old guard happened ,not due to arrogance or disrespect, but because he told them their time was up, and they would be replaced by younger players. That was his remit from management. When they all threw their toys out of the prams , and basically went on strike, would you not call that arrogance and disrespect for the fans and the people who pay them ??????
When the results didn't come it was AVB who was betrayed by our management,and the old guard won again.
Wouldn't matter what tactics he employed, they wouldn't obey anyway.They did everything to make him look bad, in an effort to hold on to their power and salaries for as long as they could.
Robbies success was a direct result of them calling off their strike action, and the improvement in form only confirms what traitors they all were.
Good luck to AVB, believe me, sometime in the future Chelsea will pay very dearly for the way he was treated.

Or maybe AVB was inept, couldn't balance the squad, brought in a high defensive line which cost us loads of points at the start of the season, lost the dressing room, failed to ultimately bring in the creative midfielder we craved and then played our most creative player on the wing most of the time...

The players responded to a better man manger in RDM and look what happened.

AVB proved that when everything is rosy he is a good manager but couldn't re-invent a side like say Fergie has constantly been able to do. He is young and loads of time to prove himself but i'm not buying that it was all the players fault. Ashley Cole didn't 'strike' cos he was getting replaced so it can only be that he was pissed off that AVB's tactics were costing us.

He may prove us wrong but I'm hardly worried now he's gone to Spurs.
