In one sense the odds and the names are complete nonsense. The odds compilers have not got a clue and these numbers just reflect a few speculative punts. If a handful of people put 50p om Mark McCammon he would become the favourite.
On the other hand if the few speculators are Gills insiders trying to make a buck and who know the probable outcome, then you have to give the odds a bit of credence. It is much more fun making a bet when you can influence the outcome. It reeks a bit of Asian bookies. brb should be declaring an interest.

( in agreement with you ) - Scally can't really concentrate on a new manager whilst the very serious matter of McCammongate is running - so next Monday it is !

Danni Farmer, who is a Gills ladies first teamer has tweeted she hears the new GFC mens manager is the GB manager, one would assume that means Hope Powell, simply because I cannot see Pearce wanting it.

I would be well happy with that, that woman has won a lot as a player and manager of the national womens team. Is Uefa Pro Licensed and frankly WAY above any other name I have heard linked with the job in terms of ability and history.

I don't think it is silly.

This is the first actual person from inside the club to mention a name.

    Can't see it happening!

But I for one would get behind her if she was given the job! Clearly has good experience of football management. And it would put our club in the headlines for the right reasons for once!

It will be a major breakthrough if/when a woman takes charge of a men's football team, and it would have to be league 2 or lower initially. Not sure if it'll ever happen tbh... can you imagine most players being happy with being "bossed about" by a woman regarding football! Would need a huuuge change in attitudes within the sport.

I thought the Hope Powell has been mentioned before linked to the job soI am not surprised. It would be an ideal position for her, a lower league club and a director of football in place to help her as she finds her feet in the mens game. It is not such a bad call, I assume that the UEFA pro training is the same qualification for the mens and ladies form of the game.

Steve is right that it would be a big change in the game but I don't see why it can't happen here.

PS. I have heard a rumour that Powell was given a second interview but I think that was just on a post somewher so has no sources attached.

Hope Powell is a serious candidate, impeccably qualified, just missed out on the Grimsby Town and appears to want the job. Gills are facing a serious case of alleged racial discrimination and unfair dismissal which might have hugely damaging reputational consequences. The remedy is obvious...appoint a black woman whose preferences are well declared (take a look on Wikipedia) as your manager. None of these things give me any sort of problem at all other than the suspicion that this is all designed to counter the McCammongate business which could be national news at the end of the week. Can we expect a managerial announcement 5 mins after the McCammon case? You can bet your bottom dollar.

Hope Powell just cannot be considered a serious contender. Although well qualified she has no RELEVANT experience - not even conference level , Limited contacts within the mens professional game compared to the other applicants and possibly very little knowledge of league 2. Her appointment would equate to nothing more than a publicity stunt which would place the clubs future prospects at risk.

I would have to disagree on the relevant experience aspect... she has managed a very successful international team albeit it female. There is very little difference in between the two seeing as they are the same sport!! Admittedly the contacts are missing but that is why we have Hess in place as a director of football.

Powell would no less qualified than a manager who hasn't managed in the UK for a number of years (i.e. Constantine, Taylor, Bullen etc.) and I think it would be disrespectful to suggest that she is only being considered as a publicity stunt or to direct media attention form the McCammon saga. Female managers are ineviatable so we should get on board early and get the best woman for the job

BSG -There's a huge difference between the experience of Hope Powell and Messrs Taylor and Constantine. Check the wikipedia entries.

Yes her experience is difference but it is still relevent. She is arguably more relevent to Constantine who has no experience in British football and Taylor who has not been involved with the domestic games for years, compared to Powell to who at least is based in the UK.

Plus if you stick with the "you need experience" angle no one would ever get a chance at managerial level you would just get the same old journeymen moving from club to club.
