old news that was spoken of weeks ago, kentnews like anyone else....are clutching at straws and are clueless !

lets face it, no one has any idea who it will be...just wish they'd hurry up, have a feeling 2nd-3rd july will be the press conference for the manager...just hope the delay is worth it, along with missing out on the bargain buys about now :steam:

Assuming Scally go's for a Lidl/budget manager, wouldn't we all prefer we didnt have a Director of Football (a failed football manager) and spend that cash on a better manager? You never know I might even apply myself then...

I know this is like a month too late (but I wasn't a member then sorry) but has anyone considered that the interview which Mr Scally made in Dubai, wasn't necessarily Peter Taylor? Before Stimson became the manager of the Gills, Scally had offered the job to Steve McMahon but I can't remember whether the deal fell through or the fact that he just didn't want the job. Well anyways he was working for ESPN Asia and was just wondering as to perhaps he may have had a change of heart and been interviewed in that part of the world? Although I do admit Taylor is the more probable candidate to be interviewed over there.

Yes - there was also a few other possible potential candidates out in Dubai, whose names I have not mentioned throughout the thread, mainly because I could not quite establish their business reasons or timetable for being out there. Not suggesting anything but just trying to keep open minded in reason for the delay in appointing a new candidate.

I would just like to confirm although I was in Dubai recently, I wasn't interviewed for the vacant post as Gills manager.

I got my invitation to pick up my season ticket last week so i went along to try and get a refund because of the managerial change after i had sent my cheque. I got the usual brush off (you paid to see the team not an individual etc etc). Anyway i gave in and walked out only to be confronted by the cardboard cutout stood outside the ticket office with a smile on his face. He had just had his second interview but I could hardly get a word out of him to begin with but he did give a bit of insight into what was happening.

Apparently it is a two stage interview process with a first session with Hessy and a second with Scally. Cutout says the two could not be more different with Hessy ranting about how unlucky the team had been and that if it wasn't for Spiller getting sent off against Crewe they would be in League 1 today. This is followed by a completely different tone from Scally who explained how important it is for a manager to keep within budget and then castigated Hessy for getting far too close to promotion bonuses not once but for two years running. Promotion bonuses were not budgetted for and if the Chairman had not had a word with Spiller before the Crewe game the club could now be in administration.

Cutout indicated that he had been impressed with the quality of the other candidates but apparently Scally peed his pants laughing and explained that the "big" names only got mentioned through placing 50p skybets and every time this generated some publicity he had another 50 season ticket sales so this would go on until all the unemployed names had had a mention or until the season tickets are all sold whichever comes first. The real selection process consists of applicants bidding the lowest number of hours per week (at minimum statutory wage).

Cutout seemed to think he had a good chance because he had bid to be paid just 90 mins a week but I don't think he will cope well with the media interviews. it is all very well being able to stay calm through the game but communication after the game is really important. Another thing, there is a rumour that someone has bid just one hour a week and is willing to help with the pies before a game!

We could still have a surprise candidate. Just because Danny S has agreed terms with Luton it does not mean he can't change his mind. He knows the club, has the respect of the Chairman and has been practising his media interviews. Whats more, he is the only candidate who can find his way from the centrecircle to the treatment room with his eyes closed.

bristol407 - you don't know how close to the truth you are. Back ' in the day ' it was said that the Gills didn't want / couldn't afford to get promoted beyond Division 3 (L1) *
.....and another thing I sincerely hope that we are not going to pay peanuts for a manager - we might end up with a monkey.

* full details available from brb ( he was there )

sksports report lee clark to become birmingham fc manager in next 24 hours.
if we were in for him thats a big shame and i'm gutted he's not coming to us...but just as gutted that i feel we are going to offer it to a poor average manager who is cheap and bow's to the demands of scally...prove us wrong paul scally

Joke you may or may not as the case may be. Close to the truth indeed. I can remember when I started my first full time job at what seems by today's comparisons a very early age. I had heard many rumours but nothing convinced me more at such an age than the regular trucker that used to come in and was a Gills supporter. He used to say those many years ago, that Gillingham could not afford to get promoted (I kid you not). How he must have been turning in his grave at the news of us making the Championships many years down the line, so much so, the omens were cast and we came back down again to our rightful place - lol

I have heard Lee Clark has got the Birmingham job, although Birmingham City FC twitter account are saying nothing is official until they say so.

On trying to find more detail, SkySportsNews twitter account is also saying he has got the job.

Many newspapers reporting this too. Seems Clark was to Birmingham as I imagine Tilson is to us. Not first choice or second even but 3rd.

Seems like their top 2 (Roy Keane and Alan Curbishley) turned them down. Seems like they are in rather bad financial shape. I think this is a brave appointment for both sides. Best of luck to him.

Will probably be better once officially announced. Lee Clark was a top three trend on twitter last night. However, a lot of it appeared to link back to a particular twitter account which I cannot confirm if it is real or fake. All I will say is that if by any chance this account is real then I would have thought there are going to be some very unhappy people in Birmingham this morning that this news leaked out unofficially. SKY this morning appear to be sitting back on the fence in their wording 'Good morning from Sky Studios - all the latest on Birmingham's search for a new manager' - could be embarrassing all round if this is a wind-up.

Or is it just a case of all the worst kept secrets.

SkyBet odds now changed again. Here are some of the picks and their odds:
Steve Tilson - 8/11
Martin Allen - 5/2
Kevin Blackwell - 3/1
Keith Millen - 9/1
Andy Scott, Peter Taylor, Stephen Constantine, David James - 12/1
Andy Hessenthaler - 25/1

Interesting to see Blackwell jump right up to 3/1 but 25/1 odds must be worth a punt for Hess <laugh>
