Oh well at least it'll be the Italians being taken to the cleaners by the Germans and not us.

At least it has saved England being totally embarrassed by the Germans.

For once it has to be said, England didn't deserve to win on pens!

Get in there! - £20 for my wallet! - As Le God has just said on twitter, until England learn to pass and keep the ball better, this is as far as it come - and at least we can sign Jack Butland now.

Completley fair result. England were by far the worst team, not bovered about courage and whatever, they were poor out there tonight.

Agreed, England were appalling, giving the ball away, spent most of the game in their own half, etc. Rooney and Young were woeful. Hopefully, given enough time, Roy Hodgson can build a team capable of competing at the next World Cup, assuming we qualify, and beyond.

I wasn't expecting to get out the group, I was disappointed by Young and Rooney but there we go.

I thought Carroll wanted it more than anyone out there, he was everywhere.

Sadly, not enough. Now to let Roy continue building upon the foundations. Onwards and upwards.

Why cant we just attack, nearly every player out there are in winning teams, teams that are used to controlling games attacking and going out to win. So why do we feel the need to defend with 2 banks of four. When you see premier leauge games, when an average team plays a top end one they give it a go, they may normally loose but not with 30% possession. When you compare italy to us man for man we are pretty even, so why do we always defend, sick of hearing we can hold our head with pride. What? how so you sat back and somehow survived a massacre, you can be proud when you got out there give 100% and try and win every game. Not lets see if we can survive 120 mins and maybe get lucky in the penalty shoot out.

Don't count on that. That's a very good Italian team we just saw. No reason they can't go on and win the tournament.

Meanwhile, England need to go back to basics and continue building for the future.

What Roy has done with the piss-poor squad he was handed by Cappello is pretty impressive, fair play to him.

    Just seen Roy's interview.

A top bloke. A manager to be proud of. Always humble and honest. Give him the time.

Because if we attempted to play attacking and technically-great football against France and the like we wouldn't be here.

We certainly wouldn't have beaten Italy either!

I feel your pain. ;) If it helps, I agree. :)

Am I the only one here who is relatively pleased with the result..?

I don't like England (the national football team) so can't pretend I'm remotely upset.

Good result against a team that on paper is better than us, and sorry about that comment about Young - was just a quick response to vent anger.

Still want Fox to wipe him though - show him that he doesn't need to dive to win a free kick.

Why not? Italy are not that much better than us, other teams gave teams a go with a much worse squad than us and beat them sweden for example we are way better than then, they attacked us and nearly beat us, they played against france and won! I can understand us playing defensively against good teams (not that we were defensive tonight we were beyond that) i just dont understand us playing a defensive against every team.

Shame that will be the end of Terry now, yes he is a twat of a human being. But damn doesn't he play for England with his heart on his sleeve.
