No, I can only give a straight answer if presented with a hypothetical situation. There is no across-the-board answer. You would have to take the relevant facts of a particular situation and weigh up the pros and cons.

The ethics involved are extremely obvious: death and suffering = bad.

Once again I'm asking about your ethics not proper science. Pretty sure illnesses such as Herpes and alzheimer's do not kill you. The latter I myself am very passionate about and would encourage animal testing on. Do you now see my point? It's not a question of the name of the specific problem I've told you it doesn't kill you I just want to know the ethics of people.

Depends on how it is done and to what extent, some of it is horrible and sometimes it doesnt really benefit us that much, so if it is done humanely, to a limit and used only when we can learn something useful.

And there is a form that cannot kill, hence the question, but fine don't worry.

No, you can die while having Alzheimer's but the disease itself does not kill you.

Interestingly, herpes research has provided an insight into potentially treating HIV.

Yes it does, look it up.

But their are drugs that can prolong your life, and reduce the amount of pain you are in. All have been tested on animals.

I have, it can bring your body to the point of death make you totally reliant on medicine and outside help it can even be put on the death certificate as cause of death. However medically Alzheimer's does not kill you it just makes you unable to fight any other problems what so ever, including the effects of old age.

On the subject of Alzheimer's, I have recently read a couple of very interesting articles in the New Scientist about potential cures, one which they think has already been successfully performed on humans. I'll post it on here if I can find it.

I hate innocent animals being tested on and if I got my hands on any asshole who does it or supports it I couldn't control my temper.

We have enough ****'s, Rapists and murderers in prison to test stuff on! use them.

Erm...that'd be a bit of a step backwards on the old human rights front I think. Still, there are states in America which still execute people, so I suppose your suggestion would be a slight step forward for them.

Oh dear. What sort of compassionate human would consider that man who was created in God's image could be so treated.

To say you care about an animal more than a human being is beyond my comprehension.

The sort of thinking you have displayed suggest some sort of serious psychological and emotional disorder.

If you were driving along in your car and an animal ran into the road and the only thing to do to avoid running over the animal would be a head on collision with another car what would you do.

For me human life has primacy over any animal to deny this is to deny your humanity.
