Well at least we have heard something from the club. My real concern is that the longer the appointment takes the more the expectation of a "quality" appointment is and if the manager doesn't match expectations (and on some sites even Pep Guadiola wouldn't be good enough) then the new manager is going to be slated before he/she starts. When the announcement is made we all need to get behind the manager and the team, give them support, backing and time. Right that's it I'm no longer going to comment on this until the appointment is made.

I have just had another read of that article today and what comes to my attention is no where do they quote PS as mentioning a name? The named managers appear to be the authors comments (of previous knowledge or speculation) around PS comments.

I would have thought that if PS had actually mentioned a potential managers name it would have been 'quoted'

I think Scally will give him a bit of input but I doubt it will be too much as it will always be what Scally wants mainly, he won't appoint someone he don't want, just cause Scally wants him.

I doubt he'll have sat in on 'first round interviews' but now that Scally says he's on his second round I could imagine Hess might have a bit of input, and maybe even sit in for a part of it. After all, the prospective manager will have to work with Hess.

Hoadie - I must be incredibly thick - I can't even guess at what you mean.
OK I'll try. If you mean that Scally won't appoint a man just because Hess has stated a preference - then you are right. Scally ( I believe ) has created a problem with candidates in having to weigh up their potential position with ' interference ' from a ' failed ' ex-manager.

I got that worded wrong, I was not reading it as I wrote it, this is what I meant.
I think Scally will give Hess a bit of input but I doubt he will give him a lot of input as Scally is not going to appoint someone just because Hessenthaler likes him, it will have to be someone that he likes aswell, but I still think Scally would still appoint someone who he really likes even if Hessenthaler did not think he was the best option, it will always be what Scally wants.

I think Hess has been involved in the interviewing process! After all, he will be working in some capacity with whoever the new manager is.

Let's get one thing straight, the names specified in the articles aren't definitive, of that there is no doubt. There is no chance Scally would reveal so willingly the names that have reached the second interview stage. Maybe a few of them are obvious such as Martin Allen and maybe Peter Taylor but really it wouldn't surprise me if we got someone who isn't even listed on Sky Bet.

Thanks Hoadie - you confirmed my guess .

If the 'marriage' between Hess & the new manager is to have any chance of succeeding, then it would be ( imho ) essential that the role of Hess is clearly defined - and that would be best done in person - so as to ensure absolute clarity - for what would be a rare combination in football. I would only really accept the situation if Hess concentrates on what will be a scouting role. It could just work !
I am sure it didn't help Hess not to have a No.2 last season. Maybe Hess had too many responsibilities to be able to focus enough attention on managing the team. Even in my ignorance as a non manager or coach, I thought that some mistakes were taking too long to be addressed. A decent No.2 might have made a significant difference in our league position.

Ince was on Talksport a few weeks back and said that he'd only go to a club that would let him bring his own players in. Given Scally has stated the new manager must work with the current crop it would suggest that the Guv'ner wouldn't go for it.

Apart from Allen and Clark being the optimist choice, the list of candidates doesn't feel me with great hope. It's good that Scally is taking his time on this one.

Just as an experiment I'm wondering if I post a name which has a relative connection to Gillingham and has a reasonably lengthy time in the game will odds on him appear. Glenn Roeder has been out for a while but is currently a scout at Villa, he has managed at premiership level and has decent connections. That said his win ratio is particularly awful and the poor chap did suffer a brain tumour whilst managing Newcastle :( He is a pretty awful candidate but if mentioned enough it may appear! :D

gillslad69 - considering the number of comments that get lifted from sites (including this one), anything is possible. However, I feel you may need to be a bit more convincing.

A view/personal opinion maybe not but if you were able to support it with a source no matter how feeble, if enough people take that comment, then it would probably make the odds, especially if someone put money on it! - lol

It actually always makes me laugh the number of people that moan about other sites (such as ours) but are quite happy to look in and read them or even extract comments from them with no credit.

Erm, according to an unknown source (definitely not just a couple of posts up...honest) apparently Glenn Roeder is in with a real shout...

According to Kent Sport News there are rumours circulating that Tilson will get the job and Scott Lindsey will be named as his assistant, I will reiterate this is being reported as a rumour. Others are suggesting it's Peter Taylor and the announcement has been delayed because of his contract with the Bahrain national side.
Sort of contradicts what Scally has said the other day but hey ho, I love a good rumour :p
