A FURIOUS mum yesterday asked why her family of five is crammed into a single-bedroom flat while their council gave a Somali family a £2million mansion.

Hard-working Claire Marlow-Gadsden, 29, has been on the waiting list for a house for five years.

But, just a mile away, a Somali family on benefits has been given a Georgian townhouse in a street next to where Tony Blair lived before moving to No 10 — as The Sun revealed.

Claire said her family is set “to explode” in their third-floor Islington Council flat, which has just three rooms and a bathroom.

She lives in North London with partner Jay Foran, 31, and sons Tommy, four, Harry, 19 months, and baby Charlie. Claire said: “I am at my wits’ end. There is not enough room for the children to develop. When they are let out it is like letting birds out of a cage.


“The council come up with problem after problem to keep us trapped. You see people that don’t do anything getting these huge homes.” Shop worker Claire pays £45 a week towards the £112 rent from the £500 a month she earns. Decorator Jay can’t work due to back trouble.

Mohamed Mohamed, 55, one of the ten-strong Somali clan, said: “All the adults in the house are on housing benefits and income support.”


The council said: “There is a severe shortage of family-sized council housing in Islington.

“Properties are allocated on a points-based system according to need.”

Why are they even here?

Arn't you obliged to seek asylum in the nearest safe country?

**** me sideways. Now what that should translate as is, "those who have paid more into the system get more from it".

Unfortunately that's not how it works.

Those who've paid **** all in get the shell outs & I'm not just having a go at foreigners as there are plenty of lazy British people who wont get off their fat, lazy arses.
Hopefully the lad can get his back sorted & go back to work.
 
The North East has come last in a list among the 11 UK regions for total regional property wealth.

The region's figure in this area came to £162.9 billion billion, according to property website PrimeLocation.com.

Surrey is the richest county in the UK when it comes to property, according to a survey by the website.

Its homes have a total value of almost £288 billion, representing 5.1% of the UK's £5.6 trillion overall property wealth.

Surrey also has the most property wealth per head at £255,125 each, according to property website PrimeLocation.com.

Its list sees southern counties dominate, with Dorset in second place with property per head totalling £207,220, Buckinghamshire third with £198,490 and East Sussex fourth with £196,300.

Nigel Lewis, property analyst at PrimeLocation.com, said: "Property wealth per head is driven by one key factor - demand.

"Homes in and around the capital will always be sought-after because of the increased population density in the South and its better employment opportunities."

Elsewhere, Warwickshire comes 10th, with individual property wealth of £145,431, and North Yorkshire is in 15th position with £126,967.

On a regional level, the South East holds the greatest property wealth, accounting for nearly a third (30%) of the UK's total property fortune.

Not 100% sure I want to but my lady down the road is sure. Idea is to rent a place long term, we can get fully furnished with communal pool 2 bed apartment at good rate.She owns a place in Durham that we have rented out now for last 6 years to same people and the rent covers Paphos rent and utilities.

I cant move full time for a few reasons right now so I would keep my place here, she would move there but keep her place and we would take turns living there for long periods, already applied for visas.

If we do like long term then we will eventually sell up here and go full time, who knows.

Sounds lovely but too hot for me, in the summer anyhow.

Summer is too hot for me Billy but in UK its in most of the time with heating on full in winter. Over there it will be sitting out most of the time with AC on and inside in summer. Afternoons in the local for a few hours, cold beer and chewing the cud with other Brits.

Nothing like a live match but I get to see every game live, home and away, live on TV.

Still early days may come to nothing.
 
I've got a little place in Spain I might retire to. Local footy team is OK (League 2 equivalent) or Elche/Valencia/Murcia if I fancy something bigger.
 
Nearly right Syd, except I am neither idle nor rich :)

Good time to buy in Spain if you're after somewhere warm for your weary bones...?

I've just started another house, a little present for the little one. So she'll always have something to remember me by...

Strange what we'll buy for kids, toys, cars, so why not a house.
