It is a lot of money, but it really depends who else we sign. If we pick up a couple of free agents, £7m on 1 player isn't unreasonable

We were told that we hadn't even spent the money set aside for us to get into the PL, never mind the money for the PL. However, Cortese doesn't panic and doesn't throw money about. He will spend what he has to, but still keep an eye on our financial health. I expect no more than two 'expensive' players plus 3-4 others.

He hasn't agree terms yet (if story true), but presumably we are talking PL wages now. I suspect the new contracts the senior players signed include an automatic increase in wages next season. He was possibly offered a similar contract, but didn't want to take the chance that we wouldn't get promoted. Sorry, piling supposition on top of supposition.

Jelavic cost Everton 5mil, Rodriguez is only costing so much because he is english and young. It's a hell of alot of money for a player unproven in the prem.

Jelavic cost so little as Rangers were screwed financially, and also still owed Everton money from a previous deal. On top of that he wasn't proven in England at all beforehand.
