Asamoah Gyan scored twice for Al Ain in their 4-0 thrashing of Ajman in the final game of the UAE Pro League on Saturday.
The on-loan Sunderland striker scored the second for the runaway champions in the 63rd minute and finished it off ten minutes from time.
Gyan thus completes the season as the league’s top goal scorer with 22 goals in his debut season.
With the season now over, Gyan’s future will be the next issue as Al-Ain push to tie him down on a permanent contract, though the striker has confirmed that he has received other offers.
 
I still say what a waste. Dumb **** will have a few bob more than he would have if he'd stayed here but if he had played this year and scored 15 plus goals again, he may well have played himself into a top EPL or European club and earned a lot of dough but also have something to tell the kids about in his latter years.

When asked who he played for and he says Al Ain, the first thing his kids will say is Alan who dad?

He is a talent and a character but he has proven he isn't the sort of character that has desire, ambition or loyalty embedded into his psyche in any shape or form.
 
Have you ever thought of Gyan this way - loves Sunderland, hates Bruce, doesn't want to play under him. Knows Brice will be sacked sometime this season, so takes a year out to earn as much money as he can. Intends to return back to Sunderland at the end of the season, as he loves the club.

Just a thought, I'm almost certainly wrong.

I agree but the 'a few bob' is more likely to be something in the region of £6m+ dependant on their tax system.

So what? he is now history. and good ****in riddance. Not rocket science, as to how he could be top scorer is it? bet the fans loved it......................Both of them.
 
Apparently, he sends most of the money that he gets back home to help his family/local organisations. If you look at it in that context, he can actually do a lot of good by staying in a league that's guaranteed to make him a ****load of money. Not saying that it was right/good class or anything, but there may be more to this than it seems...
 
I thought I would really dislike him but I just can't be arsed due to his blatant lack of ambition. All I'm really bothered about is whether we make a profit - I would rather have sold him to Spurs for £20m than to Al Ain if all we end up getting is our £13m back.
 
Just sell him, let the club make a profit, and let him make as much as he can.....That's what footballers do....

Why should he give a flying **** about SAFC?
 
He done what everyone of us would have done at work, obviously it looks much worse as hes in the spot light but does he really care what all of us think when hes making that wedge? no way. If he done it during the summer I wouldnt have been as angry but the way he knew it would leave us short upfront and we had no time to replace him gets me. Hopefully we at least get our money back (which Im sure Ellis will) or make some as we have done well in deals in the past (Henderson/Bent).

He'd have still been a multi millionaire both at SAFC or at a bigger club had he succeeded here. That and he could have had a career in major leagues not mickey mouse ones.

Shows a complete lack of ambition and desire to me. As for sending money back to his homeland, all well and good, but don't you think he could have done much more and raised the profile of those under-privileged kids by being a star at a SAFC in the EPL, or if successful here, a major EPL or European club? He isn't even raising the profile of Asamoah Gyan at the minute.

He is a charlatan and an imposter and we are well rid of him ASAP.
 
Agree with Cestria, he has thrown away years of hard work to join a circus. Face facts, football in the middle east is a joke.

He was on £2m a year with us playing in one of the best 2 or 3 leagues in world football. He could have moved to one of the big boys here this summer and doubled his salary, or abroad and done likewise but still played at the highest level.

What he has done will make him slightly richer in the pocket but a pauper in the history books. He will be completely forgotten in 10 years time and never mentioned by ANY football fans or pundits. He could have been extremely wealthy AND talked about in the highest terms after a great career, as imo he has the talent but not the application to ever realise it.

I'd rather play in front of big, passionate, crowds in a top league, personally. He'd have plenty cash for whatever he's doing back home and a proper shift in what can be a short career.

Frankly, the UAE is the footy equivalent of a gap year...

£2m. How much of that is swallowed by tax? He'll have walked away with about £1.5m max.

I imagine he walked away with about £8m this year. I can understand why you don't like it but I won't hold it against him.

His family won't be secured a legacy and a way of life because of history books of football. If he pumps millions of pounds a year into Ghana his family will become royalty over there. Only pretty green does that.

Completely agree with Cest.

If he's on 200 grand a week as reported, then that dwarfs even what Man City pay.

Why are all Man City's imported mercenaries not plying their trade at Al Ain and other UAE clubs? Because, even for a money-grabbing footballer, there are limits, there is a career and ambition to think of as well as the cash.

Gyan is a joke, we are well rid, he's thrown away any real career plus his place in the national team for £ $ €.

To be really blunt mate, If you had £50 in your back pocket in Ghana you'd be royalty. If at the end of his career he had 'only' amassed say a paltry £6m or £8m, he could practically buy the country. He wouldn't see any better benefits if he had £20m or £30m in the bank but he could have had a fantastic career in the European super leagues. I reckon he has blown his chances of securing his legacy in the game as no top club will be interested in a player scoring 25 goals in the Northern Premier League.
