My biggest fancy today runs in the 3.30 Fakenham in the form of PRINCE DES MARAIS 12-1 which I feel is a staggeringly good price. The horse is a course and distance winner who last won here on good going in March 2011 off a mark of 118 by no less than 16 lengths from Knight Legend. Today he races off a mark of 120 so its plain to see he a few pounds well in on the book. He was given a recent tune up over hurdles to put him spot on right for this and at double figure odds he is too good to miss.
Earlier on the card I also like the look of FOREVER MY FRIEND 2.25 8-1 who I think is a youngster that is yet to fulfill his full potential. He had some very decent bumper form but is yet to fully translate that to hurdles. I believe that ground is the key to this horse and I think he has been wholly unsuited running on soft on heavy. He has been dropped a couple of pounds and now off a far sounder surface should be ready to give his true running. His best hurdles performance was over three miles on good at Exeter. He is a pound lower than that day now and with Tom O'Brien back in the saddle he needs keeping on the right side of.
On of my favourite maxims is that Group One winners win Group One races, I wish I recalled it more often when looking at potential improvers. Today at The Curragh we have a facile Group One winner in HOMECOMING QUEEN taking on a number of fillies that she has already humbled. Quite how we are able to get EVENS is beyond me. The nearest horse in the betting to her today was beaten twelve lengths at HQ. A follow up looks near certain and how I wish that I hadnt gone so large on Saamid yesterday!
