My biggest fancy today runs in the 3.30 Fakenham in the form of PRINCE DES MARAIS 12-1 which I feel is a staggeringly good price. The horse is a course and distance winner who last won here on good going in March 2011 off a mark of 118 by no less than 16 lengths from Knight Legend. Today he races off a mark of 120 so its plain to see he a few pounds well in on the book. He was given a recent tune up over hurdles to put him spot on right for this and at double figure odds he is too good to miss.
Earlier on the card I also like the look of FOREVER MY FRIEND 2.25 8-1 who I think is a youngster that is yet to fulfill his full potential. He had some very decent bumper form but is yet to fully translate that to hurdles. I believe that ground is the key to this horse and I think he has been wholly unsuited running on soft on heavy. He has been dropped a couple of pounds and now off a far sounder surface should be ready to give his true running. His best hurdles performance was over three miles on good at Exeter. He is a pound lower than that day now and with Tom O'Brien back in the saddle he needs keeping on the right side of.
On of my favourite maxims is that Group One winners win Group One races, I wish I recalled it more often when looking at potential improvers. Today at The Curragh we have a facile Group One winner in HOMECOMING QUEEN taking on a number of fillies that she has already humbled. Quite how we are able to get EVENS is beyond me. The nearest horse in the betting to her today was beaten twelve lengths at HQ. A follow up looks near certain and how I wish that I hadnt gone so large on Saamid yesterday!

OR DE GRUGY 3.50 Kelso 10-1 is also quite possibly "thrown in" on his debut for his new yard

Morning Stick. Dramatic victory yesterday. Well done.

Did anyone, apart from George and I, watch the fight last night? What an awesome performance by Froch. I took Froch to win by ko at 13/2. Never in doubt. Unfortunately I didn't have real money on.

Can't be having Homecoming Queen today, I get the feeling that she may just excel on the softer ground. I will be taking a chance on La Collina who ran a credible race at Newmarket should be better suited by the ground today even though she still has a lot of ground to make up.

Having backed Homecoming Queen at evs and After at 10s, I'll be disappointed if I can't trade out of both those positions. The favourite is poor value, but I'm guessing she'll still be backed. I also couldn't resist a very small dabble on Samitar at 38 on Betfair, just in case she shows a return to form in what might be a weak enough Guineas. The hooks are bated, now to fall asleep in the sun and hope to get a couple of bites.

I see your thinking Quel. My reservation about Absolute Shambles is that he does always give maximum effort!

I dozed off near the end of Framptons fight..long day, but watched highlights this morning and he was hugely impressive, just had too much speed and agression and landed almost everything for a well deserved win.

    Hello lads.

Nothing for me today as yet.Ever back one you know you shouldn't?

I'm normally good at being selective and avoiding if any negatives but annoyed at backing Alanza yesterday after its reappearance last year, carbon copy.Stupid.

    Thankfully Roy's boy's retrieved losses..what a price 6/5 was although I can't see a victory in the upcoming Euro's.

Another article yet again in The Times,by Johnathon Leake, highlighting how 20 of AP'S mounts have been killed in action in the last 5 years. They even mention Synchronised.McCoy was half a mile away when that horse suffered it's demise. It appears Animal Aid's PR wing are circulating the figures, including those involving other top pilots, which have been corroborated.

News worthy for page 8 coverage or part of the ST's continuing agenda to scandalise racing?

afternoon people. had a nice little bet on ree's rascal at newbury last night stick, hope you was on. shame laverre only proved second best too. Also followed up with a decent bet on tis rock and roll at 4/1 that got backed into 6/5, so a very profitable evening. even calvin harris was berable. And i must say, the talent walking around in the sun was just incredible.(not the talent in the parade ring!)
