Five Premier League clubs were allowed in 2005-6 - Chelsea and Arsenal were given direct entry to the tournament, while Man Utd, Everton and Liverpool were given qualifiers.

    No you weren't.
    Don't be ridiculous.

Clearly talking about a change in the present or else the last sentence wouldn't be relevant, would it?

Question : according to the rules, half the CL Tv money is allocated according to league position 1 to 4. So do Spurs get a slice of the pot?

Nope. We lose the whole lot while Arsenal, Utd and even City drop in revenue!

I remember this Liverpool were not allocated a country like the other four were, they had to start from the 1st Qualifying Rounds with the lower seeds and when they qualified for the groups were in the same Group as Chelsea and as we know clubs from the same country arent allowed to play each other in the group stages. Very special reason why Liverpool were allowed in.

That sounds a bit harsh you would think they would at least stick to the league position allocation of Revenue and Chelski should lose that by virtue of finishing 6th.

Good knowledge there. They actually changed them for Liverpool and let them play in the first qualifying round with Everton and ManUre joining in the third round of qualifying. The rule was changed soon after that. Just face it, you need to check your facts before you come over here and give it Charley big spuds. Mug.

Incidentally, Livepool went out in the first qualifying stage to Benfica, their league form from the previous season at last catching up with them. They finished one place above where Chelsea did this year. Here's hoping that history repeats itself.

Looks like their fans are as obnoxious as their owner, and most of their players.

HBIC - yeah those figures are amazing. I've seen them before but every time I read them they are incredible. Yes - the Chaaampions! League is obviously a way for clubs to (continue to) dominate domestically.

    Yes, you were.
Why they'd need to change them for Everton, who weren't affected at all by Liverpool winning it, is another question entirely, though.

My point was they DO change rules. As Platini says that will not happen for 3 years, but to qualify for Europe only for the place you earnt to be given to a team that finished 6th in their league is clearly a situation that, however rare, cannot be allowed to continue.

As the competition is based on appeasing the rich clubs and stopping them from forming a breakaway league it is a flawed and unfair set up from the very start.

A cup comp should be open on an equal basis to all the leagues taking part, not biased in favour of 'better' teams or leagues. That is not going to change because the rich leagues will always dominate in this format.

In other words unless you scrap the thing and set up a new 'fair' competition tinkering with it will change little.

It would be pretty funny if it's changed and Tottenham are officially the only team this current rule has applied to.

I guess that would be a kind of a record though. <laugh>

    going on last season
    United out losing to basle
Spurs out of a group with part timers in the EL were hammered by spanish opposition the previous season after struggling to qualify against young boys
    City flapped
    Arsenal ditto
Only chelsea though sheer fortune represented the prem

Strongest league my arse, 2 spanish teams in CL semis and against the odds 0 in the final and 2 in EL final one of which and the worst of the 2 saw off the english champions, youre talking nonsense a bit there, and no the prem should not get more at the expense of sharing the cash around fairly by having even representaion from the top leagues. thats fkn deludded aftter english teams showing in Europe this season
