Well said, Lincoln. I, for one, have made the odd Arab/Egyptian 'joke'. I regret having done so.

I am grateful for them having saved City from a fate worse than death.

    Agreed.

Some people on here can't debate or discuss issues without resorting to name-calling and keyboard-crusader bravado.

Wouldn't the dictionary only take account of spelling rather than pronunciation?

The American one was a **** up. They tried to rationalise English for the New World, but hadn't looked at the background nor the implications of changing the spelling of words like center etc. Part of what they missed is the reasons our owl language is a grammatical mess.

You couldn't just spell things how you like, there were rules. It as assumed by the early lexicographers that English had French roots as that was the somewhat pompous, elitist language of the Courts, when unfortunately a fair percentage of spoken language has its roots in German so many of the rules don't work.

Sweeping generalisation, but the American dream is very much a backward step rater than an aspiration. We really don't need to be copying much off the new Americans. If they hadn't been ripped off to buggery, indigenous Americans could possibly offer us far better advice on life.

Do I detect a touch of 'pan' and 'kettle'.

Think of your use of 'cockroach' pal.

...no still in Planet Coffee before going back to Lincoln.(LOL)

Sorry, seriously off topic but I love this place on weekend...I think its 'me Ull' roots tugging me back! I used to go to Marist College back in the early 70s, and this area use to be 'out of bounds' ... err as well as St. Mary's understandably - then a girls only school ;) I think I've had too much coffee!!!

Anyone else do Coffee Planet on Newland Ave??

I dont understand the coffee thing. Tea is a British and a man thing, Yorkshire Tea Bags obviously are the best.

If you are down Newland get in the boozers mate Larkins, Xanders or that one on the corner that was Hogshead dunno its name now.

Nice thought Chazz, believe me if I didn't have to drive back home to Lincoln and do a shed load of marking I'd be in one of them already. Having said that, I play with a couple of Hull based bands most weekends and I'm usually wringing out my liver come Sunday...

don't get clever, you know the answer to that.. my point is "ownership".. saying it's ours cos it's called ENGLISH.. there I said it.. we now distinguish American English, British English etc anyhow..
