As soon as I saw last Sunday's result and the fact that Liverpool had finished 8th it was a matter of when and not if Dalglish would be sacked. I actually think that they have had a good season insofar they have wone one domestic trophy and came runners-up in a second. (Although their performance in the FA Cup final was lementable for the first 60 mins, they were unlucky for Carroll to miss the sitter of a header. The problem for this club is that their fans are living in the past. As much as I dislike Ferguson, what he has achieved at Man Utd dwarfs the achievements of Shankly, Paisley abd Dalglish to such an extent that football has moved up several notches wince Liverpool dominated much of the 70's and 80's. The bar has been set too high for Liverpool and they will never reach these height again.
I'm actually a big fan of Ferguson, and his achievements at Old Trafford have been stunning (none more so than this year getting so close to City with a very poor team) BUT hang on. Paisley won the European Cup in 77, 78 and '81; 6 league titles in 9 years; 3 League Cups and a UEFA Cup. It felt like dominance to me! When the book of "Great Managers of Our Time" is written, Bob Paisley would be pretty near the top (along with the amazing Brian, of course!).
I do agree that Liverpool are dreaming if they think they can get back to this sort of dominance simply by chopping managers. I also think Dalglish was always the wrong choice. They need to realise that they need to get a quality manager and show faith, as United did with Fergie.
