Good point. Could Lambert be sending a message to the board; back me to the hilt?

The whisper I'm hearing tonight is that Paul Lambert will be given permission to speak to #wba about the vacant manager position #ncfc #AVFC

That could, of course, be complete bullshit

Makes no sense to jump from a stable US Aircraft Carrier into the doomed, unpredictable Titanic, we all know it will end badly!

Villa I can kind of understand. Why would he go to WBA? They have nothing more than we do.

I wish some of you would have a bit more faith, both in Lambert, and in McNally, who, even if PL is tempted by a bigger club, and it will only be a much bigger club, will undoubtedly find another suitable replacement.

There´s bound to be rumours all through the summer, but let´s hear it from the horse´s mouth first before we start jumping to conclusions, eh? ;)

He just doesn't like to give the media anything. Sometimes he just gives sarcastic answers to shut them up. Yes, maybe it would be better if he just said he is not leaving but thats just not what Lambert does, so I wouldn't read much into it. As for WBA it would not really be a step up, they have been linked with many other managers notably Houghton and Raneri so it seems unlikely. Villa is a big club and would not be impossible for him to go there but: a) They wanted Martinez last time so surely nothing has changed in that regard so he will be first choice again b) Lambert is good friends with Martin O'Neil who resigned as Villa manager. He must of had his reasons for this such as lack of funds and/or ambition although it was never publicly disclosed. So surely if he was approached by Villa he would speak to O'Neil to find out why he left and that may well be a good enough reason for him to not go there

West Brom is a sideways move in terms of fanbase etc but he already has all his players here. And I still maintain he wouldn't want to go to a club with Stephen Ireland on the books.

In my opinion PL will not be here at the end of the month. A Manager is as good as his last 6 months and PL knows he has taken us as far as he can and the only way now is backwards. He has to get out whilst the going is good - Villa is the obvious option with Liverpool representing an absolute bonus for him if that happened. We have over performed for the last 3 years and all good things must come to an end. Too many Managers who have over performed with smaller clubs have hung about a season too long with the inevitable consequences and PL is too cute and ambitious to let that happen to him. Whether we like it or not City will be strong favourites next year to go down and success for the club will be staying up and that does not fit in with the ambition of our Manager. To move forward we need serious investment in the squad, complete clearance of the debt and enlargement of the Stadium. Without risking the entire future of the Club by taking serious financial risks - which, fortunately, the Board will not sanction - we cannot afford, in the short term, to finance one let alone all three. If he is going I just hope that it is sooner rather than later to give the new man maximum time to try and plan an extra season for us in the Premier League. Sorry if that offends some people but that is how I see it but I will be forever grateful to PL for providing the best consecutive 3 years I have ever experienced at Carrow Road.

I wonder if he has the smirk on his face he seems to have when he talks to the press sometimes? I would be furious if he left but lets not get wound up about it and look at what a great season we've had and plan for the next campaign.

I think he'll give us one more season just to see if we can progress a bit further.
But in order to do that the board must really give him every penny to shore the squad up for next year.
The clubs that have gone down this year had gone stale from just surviving each and every season, but with Reading( funds to spend) & Saints on a roll as we were & in my opinion Blackpool (full of young hungry players) next season could well be tougher than this year.
But i do hope that the matter is sorted sooner rather than later!

wow, you're a little ray of sunshune...

while I agree with one or two of the points raised, the outlook is certainly not as gloomy as you paint it. There are several really quite poor sides in this league. I agree that next season will be a big test, survive that and I think it will get easier.

Every team in the prem is only there temporarily. Eventually we will all be relegated but lets hope our time is a good few years off and lets enjoy the good times.

The club is bigger than one person- if this happens soon, I trust McNally to hire an excellent replacement to Paul.

    1) We need investment of ~ 4/5 players (Naughton is a must, Rhodes and Snodgrass are possibilities), however we should hit the ground running with all our lower-league signings, now complete with a full season of premier league experience, no longer adapting for a few months. Serious investment should be reserved for QPR!!!

    2) The Debt situation as McNally mentioned earlier this season is now absolutely fine, the bank is obviously very happy that we are doing well, and if all goes well, should pay any remainder off in 1/2 years. Besides majority (11m I think?, leaving just 5m for bank = 16m?...anyone confirm this?) is held by Delia, who would never call it in atm.

The board will back us to the tune of £10-£15m IMO for transfers (throw in a few sales too to help this total).

    3) Enlargement of the Stadium, a gradual process and not one which takes precedence over transfers and certainly not until our finances are healthy enough: no point paying off the debt to go and load us back up to the hilt!

    ---

    Seriously, why are people worrying?

McNally found Lambert...he has secured our financial future...he has made quality signings...I trust McNally 100% to find a suitable replacement if he leaves, which is highly unlikely considering how good it is atm @ Norwich.
