As Rebel said, the amazing thing with Jesus is that, son of God or not, he was just some random carpenter's son, killed like a criminal like many other people in his time. There have been loads of other 'messiahs' before and after him, but you'd be hard pushed to find a single person who's never heard of him.

    And your point?

He was from a royal line, he was born of a virgin, he was supposed the son of God, he performed miracles, he started his own religion and was crucified.

Yet the 'evidence' for any of this is sketchy at best.

He was clearly a strong and convincing personality.

But there are so many other 'good people', Jesus is almost certainly more famous than King David who is about as high as you can get in Judaism! It's pretty ****ing good for a 'good guy' to be regarded so much more highly than him!

    Richard Van Gough? <laugh>

Van Gogh wasn't supposedly the son of God, nor did he start his own religion, pose a threat to the Roman empire or blaspheme Judaism.

And what's your point? That his personality made him more memorable. So what?

    If you believe in scripture.
Was there a historical Jesus. Almost certainly. The primary texts from which the synoptic gospels were drawn wouldn't have just been made up. Indeed, the primary texts from which Matthew mark and luke were drawn (As well as the gnostic gospels) probably were contemporary accounts, or thereabouts. Josephus wrote about the historical figure of Jesus. If you want to talk about the veracity of his miracles as described in the gospels, go right ahead. If the point is that there was no guy in history named Jesus, then WRT is wrong. And can keep on being wrong if people " want to carry on letting people think you're a moron"

I'm saying that it can't have just been such a personality that got him to where he is regarded now, he must have been a whole lot more than that.

Haile Selassie I was the titular head of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church and, until his visit to Jamaica in 1966, he had never confirmed or denied that he was divine.During his visit, he specifically declined to contradict the Rastafari belief that he was Jesus.

so are all the rastas wrong ? everyone has their own beliefs

I'm not arguing that Jesus wasn't a real man. But that's all he was. A man.

You've told me I'm wrong but provided NO evidence to support your claims. So now I'm a moron because, in my view, your faith doesn't qualify as contemporary evidence?

    LMAO <laugh>

And neither was Jesus to the Jews, or the Roman empire. He still isn't to the Jews and wasn't for the Roman empire until 312 AD....
