I think Ba (£7m buy out clause); Cisse (will be on all the bigger clubs radars now), Ben Arfa, Krul and Cabaye will be the ones targetted. How many, if any, go is down to guesswork but if Ashley could pocket £70m for all 5 he will do so. That would almost pay half his debt off in one go and he will be happy to oblige the suitors.

Add to that European football even after they are sold is guranteed, it makes a fire sale even more assured.

Pardew will be given £20m to replace them and your man Carr's reputation will be tested again.

Comm - didn't you hear mate. The craas are far bigger than any of these and there is more likelihood that the likes of Iniesta, Ronaldo and Messi wanting to come to the Sports Direct than any barcode players moving out.

Mike Ashley will not sell for less than silly money, I can't see Cisse or Krul going for less than 35m. Tiote I'd say 30m. 25m minimum seeing as his contract was at 6 and a half years at the start of the season.

If we can get Ba on a new contract, then I take comfort in the fact that none of our best players will be going for less than a massive amount that we can use to improve the squad.

We don't sell players for what they're worth, remember? We're not a selling club. We don't want to lose our best players unless a massive offer comes in that's too much to turn down and will help the team in the long run.

**** me you shake the deluded tree and see what falls out? I have no doubt Ashley could sell 3 or 4 players and pocket £50m or £60m (don't count on the Carrol deal as a benchmark chum as that was £50m cash floating round from the Torres deal) but he wont be reinvesting that money daft lad, or why sell in the first place.

Ashley's plan is to cultivate new talent with this bloke Carr for very little investment and sell them on for huge amounts of money. It worked last year and he will reap the financial rewards of that policy this summer. He will again look to Carr to fill those gaps with new talent which is fine but you cant be that lucky again and have players replicating that immediate success.

The great thing for Ashley is that he can cash in on his assets, safe in the knowledge that European football is assured whatever he does now. He has saved Newcastle from the Rangers route by lending you money but he wants to see that returned and if he cant sell you for £350m he will sell the assets to recoup the debt.

If you cant see that then you're blinkered, thick or just very good at poker.

I doubt many would. He had a very patchy record as a manager. Plenty had reservations and based on his record you can see why. He'd also had plenty of rumours flying around of an unsavoury nature. He was given full support despite this as all our managers are. Even Fat Sam despite being a blatant bad fit. So nothing to with fickle fans, just taking as you find. Misplaced smugness based on hindsight is always an unattractive trait.

Back to the what this thread is about, well done Alan Pardew deserved manager of the year and well done Mike Ashley for sticking to his principles cos if the fans had their way they would be no Mike Ashley or even Pardew or european football next season.

I don't get what's so shocking about what Pardew said, he's absolutely right.

Atleast we'll have European football next season (possibly Champions League) as a slight deterrent for anyone who's head might be turned by a bigger club, which is a whole lot more than you have and most other clubs in Europe.

Pardew did say we would struggle to keep our best players but they won't go cheap. He also said that players' agents are getting in touch with us who he would never have dreamed of signing last summer.
