It shows the salaries of all the biggest sports clubs in the world, you're currently 110th biggest spenders having been at 130th last year.

Shows not only how massive a gap there is between us lot (middle to upper half 'best of the rest' Premier League teams) and the 'bourgeoisie' of European football, but how badly some teams are misspending...Bolton and West Ham are only a million behind you in terms of annual wage bill, thats crazy!

According to the table your wage bill has increased, I take it this is mostly due to having to pay Bendtners wages?

Good find that. What's amazing to me is how the NFL teams are so low. Must be a result of the wage caps and strikes over the years.
As for our respective teams: the position change doesn't mean much, because it's as much a product of the others on the list as it is of a club's own spending. What is really eye-opening is how much NUFC have managed to decrease their bill AND complete an outstanding season. We know there were a lot of overpaid players around, but it shows that there's still talent to be had at a reasonable price. (Of course with success, comes higher wage demands!)

You also have to take into account the wages of the dead wood we have had for a while and with the likes of Anton and others leaving that should come down in next years statistics and we also have McCartney who is on high wages. I'm convinced we are still paying for the Roy Keane days.

Yeah, this is what initially caught my eye, in one season we got rid of Joey Barton, Andy Carroll and Kevin Nolan (no offense to them, but when we signed them/let them go they were all relatively middling premier league players - Carroll was highly thought of, but he'd only had half a season in the Prem) and brought in the likes of Cabaye, Tiote, Ba, Cisse and Santon (CL winner, Ligue 1 winner, Eredivisie winner, Bundesliga 2nd top scorer) AND STILL managed to lower the budget. As much as Ashley makes some very 'insensitive' decisions at times, he is one hell of a businessman!

When I go and watch Sunderland it's scandlous to think of the money they are earning. The lack of effort these last few games of the season with the wages they are on is just shocking.

It's catch 22 though, as clubs seem prepared to chuck money at players, sometimes money they havn't got.

At somepoint we know it's going to come crashing down. We are getting loads of warning signs and yet still it goes on. How many clubs are going to the wall? I don't think there is a club in the prem who hasn't been in trouble. Big clubs like Leeds, Portsmouth, Rangers.

It is not sustainable. Greedy players and agents, ruining the game.

Not really because his ownership was poor, the club was being poorly run. He was taking little interest. But since he went more hands on and got our house in order he has done a fine job. You just have to accept the odd PR blunder (stadium name issue). He has appointed some good people. Hughton did a fantastic job, and I think he was responsible for Carr? Pardew has been far better than his record suggests, tactically very sharp.

Ashley deserved most of what he got but you also have to give him credit for sorting the mess out and stop treating it like a plaything.

The thing with these figures is like yourselves we'll be looking forward to cutting loose some deadwood. Smith is supposedly on 60k, Xisco on 50k, Bellend Ranger signed a new contract that'll have been worth a bit as there was speculation at the time, Lovenkrands, I think both clubs should have a bit of bunce coming their way. McCartney situ is incredible if true.

It will be interesting to see how much the same players over at NCL will be earning next season though. They will have had (if they have decent agents/managers) incentives built into their contracts, thus a great seson will result in higher wages.

By the way, thats good business by Ashley, as everyone is rewarded by their efforts then and it looks like it has worked as well.

Agent Ashley may wel have defected this season and played at being a double agent.


I will welcome him back in the summer though, when he sells Cisse, Ba, Cabaye, Tiote and Krul to fund his next champagne and sluts casino party. Lol
