    Official Statement

Following recent speculation in the media Hull City can now confirm that following a brief period of suspension Nick Barmby has today been dismissed from his role as First Team Manager of the Club with immediate effect.

The reason for the dismissal relates to certain comments made by Nick in recent interviews. The comments concerned were wholly misleading and implied that the Board had not made funds available to Nick to strengthen the First Team squad during the January transfer window. Such is not only completely untrue, the comments made by Nick contradicted the Board’s publicly stated position that funds would be made available to Nick during the January transfer window. As stated in previous interviews, the Board accepted every transfer request from Nick and in fact actively encouraged him to strengthen the squad should he feel it was necessary.

The Board consider the comments made by Nick unjustifiably cast public doubt on the honesty and integrity of the Board and its members. The relationship between the Team Manager and the Board is of prime importance to the success of any Football Club. In making the comments Nick made, he completely undermined the trust and confidence that needs to exist between the Team Manager and the Board.

The Club sincerely hopes that its fans will recognise that the decision to dismiss Nick was not taken lightly. The decision was taken following meetings with Nick where he had every opportunity to state his case and make representations. The Club feels that it has treated Nick entirely fairly and in the same way that it would have treated any other employee in the same situation.

Having been prepared to give Nick his first opportunity in football management, and for it to end like this, has been a particular disappointment to the Board.

Notwithstanding the circumstances of this “parting of the ways” the Board wish Nick every success in his future career and thank him for the service he has provided to the Club since his return to his home town in 2004.

The Club can confirm that the search for a new manager will begin immediately.

<doh> That's exactly the point. He's a football manager, a Hull City legend, you don't just sack him in the same way that you would sack some twat who was ****ing about at Allam Marine..

They say they will treat all employees the same way. Who wants to work for a club where you get sacked for having an opinion. Expect the likes of Rosenior and anybody with half a brain to be out of the door.

Having read that statement, I don't think there will be compensation.

He'll go for wrongful dismissal and possible sue for libel as well.

This is a very interesting line from the owners.

OLM suggests that some of NB's requests were not sanctioned?

Can we release a camel draped in a Hull City flag into the front reception?

Come on - bit of an over reaction. I was amongst the first to show my displeasure in this matter on this board but have concluded there is much more to this than meets the eye. Also Nicky has been naive IMO in dealing with the media, whilst I do believe the Allams have been disappointed with some of the results and performances under NB tenure.

The Allams like other high profile owners (like Mandaric at Sheff Wed) have bitten the bullet and decided to have a change of manager - it worked well at Hillsborough when everyone was criticising him for sacking Megson.

They have sunk £51m of their money into the Club and are in their own rights to do what they feel will be successful for the football club.

As for the players they will soon move on with the whole of the close season to reflect on things.. its a dog eat dog business after all.

Appalling. I am ashamed and disgusted to be associated with the current owners. In all my time supporting the Tigers I have never felt as angry as I do now. Nick should feel completely aggrieved over this unacceptable totalitarian and football blind decision and process.

I will be there next season but am completely and totally f**ked off by this. There has to be some recourse for us all in this.

Too angry to make any sense at the moment though.

everyone has gone ga gaaa !!

the club have nailed their stance in January and beyond to the tallest mast in football now ,
Looking at the progress the club made from Jan to May ... ESPECIALLY March , there is little wonder the club sacked NB.

If their statement is to believed -[ and as i said last week , NB has had every opportunity to speak out publicly - ] Barmby was sacked for misrepresenting the board in media communications.
Easily a sackable offence and unfortunately one a local businessman owning a local club cannot accept .

A sad ending , but im not gonna shoot the Allams down on this one - unless there is proof otherwise (and not half alluded speculation from sources )

It will be interesting to see how Nick reacts to his sacking. He's not short of a bob or two and can afford best advice and counsel. If the Allam's statement is at sufficiently at odds to Nick's view of funding and management backing, then we could see Nick challenging them for wrongful dismissal. The Allam's have repeatedly stated publicly that they have backed Nick with funds and presumably can evidence this if a legal case ensues ......... interesting.

No overreaction at all. You either accept something like this or you don't. If you think the players we have are going to accept this then you are in lala land yourself.

Very disappointed in the outcome of this. No one wins.

The biggest and most disturbing thing is that Nicks creditability is now damaged. To be sacked for not working with the board, will be hard for him.

I will raise my head above the parapet on this and hope that readers will see my comments as honest and not not someone who is having a dig

My renewing of my season pass was in doubt, not because of my wishes, but the relative who I go to the home matches was not going to renew his.
His understandable reason was that he found that the football was boring, that we wasted opportunities and lacked strength. We lost games that were winnable and never looked like a scoring team.
I like watching the match anyway, no matter what the result and so have a different outlook.
He was not amongst those who booed but he felt like joining in at times.
For all of the support that Nick deserves he has to take the blame for the way we played. Regardless of what he or the Allams have said, there where many who wanted to see more.

The situation now that Nick has gone is clearer. Both passes will be renewed. I know that amongst the outcry there will be a section of support that is happy to see Nick is no longer manager.

My personal view is that I wanted him to have a chance, I wanted him to learn lessons, I was fine with his management until Portsmouth and I wish that he had not been sacked. But what has happened is not a crime its business and his crime was to bite the hand that fed him. Sorry Nick but you could and should have kept your mouth shut.
