As I said I'm not expecting many to leave, but if they do at least we had the grace to wait until after the celebrations. Reading announced the players leaving them last Monday!

Just been on Echo site where a poster went last night...he said Nigel refused to speak about new players saying it was a time for celebration with the people who got us there and not the right time to talk about new faces....see, touch of class. Also he was bopping to Abba...wish we had a video of that...bet players have one to use for blackmail next season.

Having the luxury of living 300 ft from st marys I was able to enjoy the fireworks which were very pleasant.

On the chaplow topic, we have a couple of players who won't cut it in the PL and I think Adkins will bring in players before any leave so we'll have to wait and see but I for one would like to see him have a crack at it.

Totally agree with the 50 fans invited.
Bit like willy wonka only better

He simply doesn't have the quality. He's tenacious and hard-working, sure, and wins the ball back frequently, but he just doesn't have the touch of quality and composure that we need for the Premier League.

Harsh but true.

Give it a break we are all enjoying the moment for as long as we can. The horrid bits will come once we have all finished celebrating.

Your opinion, mine is that his touch is non existent, his passing is League One standard, his tackling is rash....

This has got off topic, but quite a few have replied to your daft original one liner saying that you couldnt wait for Chaplow to be sold - in reponse to a picture of him having a well earned party with the other players at SMS.

Richard Chaplow is well above Lg 1 standard in all departments incl passing. Your opinion is valid as a Saints supporter, but so is my response and those of several others on this thread who dont have the same opinion.
Chaplow has worn the Saints shirt with pride and he deserves to be allowed to celebrate our promotion without anybody putting a short and cutting sentence like that under his photo - imo.

Touch of class seems to be the overriding theme for our club throughout the celebrations and this season.
I think the invitation and attendance of chamberlain underlines this. So often transfers can end in bad terms especially ones as drawn out as Alex's.

Great that Cortese & Adkins respect individual ambition above there own goals. Plus Alex helped pay for the party :D

Those players deserve a big celebration and the fact 50 fan got to go was a nice touch. For thos moaning about it only being 50, should have bought a ticket to the awards dinner Friday.

For a period prior to his injury Chaplow was actually in great form and was possibly at that time our best player he got lnjured v Bristol i think and after he was missing we had our first wobble of the season .And in any case most of our players are untested at prem level so we will have to see how a few of them cope and ironically Chappers is one of the few who have top flight experience i think from his WBA days

And every WBA fan I have spoken to said he was out of his depth.

A bit off topic...I sometimes wonder whether Alex regrets getting off the bus. He is in an excellent side and well liked by the Arsenal supporters, he'll definitely go on to be a top player for club and country, great. But he could have been the best player in the Championship this season, on his way to the Premiership and still had that bright future ahead of him. I don't blame him for leaving though and it's great to see him around the club.

On Chaplow, well he was our best player before his injury. I won't forget that United goal either...or Harding's offside one.

He wasn't to know how well we would do and therefore how much an impact he could have within the team. Probably the right move for him, even if it does pain me to say it.

It was a party for the players and staff really. Normally, you wouldn't get supporters at this kind of thing. Nice touch really. I don't think we should complain that it was only 50. If there had been none no-one would have complained.

Not complaining about the the event, i just said there should be something else aswell.

Thanks for the video and pictures, DTLW. I have no problem with a big party for all those who got us to the PL and think its a nice gesture that 50 lucky ST holders got an invite. I'm pleased that we can put on a great night like this. I don't expect a personal thank you from Cortese...seems whatever he does is criticised. Interesting to see Oxo there.

Not particularly about Chaplow, but I think most players will be kept on at least for next season. I think we'll get a couple of top ups without any major changes.

Where did i slag off the event?, all i said was i think there should be a open day aswell(or something else). Not looking for a personal thankyou either, just would be nice to thank all the team etc.

why dont you post it on the summer transfer thread instead of constantly banging on about it on a completely different thread.

Calm down son, it's the close season, hence there's **** all to talk about. Leave me be.

The only thing I can say about Chaplow is that he potentially useful in the Championship. He cannot pass, dribble, cross, see a pass or shoot (yeah he' scored a few goals but missed so many)
