Evening all. I thought I'd start a thread that gets away from the usual subjects of transfer talk, England and 'Arry, the run in and the will we/won't we Champions League places saga and bring up the planned new stadium. Does anyone know if a firm date for the start of development has been penciled in? The last update I've read involves Sainsbury's committing to a supermarket at the Northumberland project and as we all know, planning permission has been granted and compulsory purchase orders are a done deal (I believe). With Chelsea looking to move to Battersea, it reminded me that a new higher capacity stadium is still our top priority. We need bigger gates receipts to compete at the highest level as our wage cap is caused by the unfortunate truth that the current stadium simply doesn't get enough revenue. So when can we realistically look to having a 55,000 - 60,000 seater to take us into the big time?
I remember hearing something about work starting next year, in order for us to move in at the start of the 2014-5 season
Although there has been no recent updates from the club, work is still ongoing. Approaching the ground down the High Road towards the Paxton Road stand, all existing buildings within the last 300 metres or so, are boarded up and presumably ready for demolition, plus many buildings have been knocked down. All this within the past few months. Any approach to the stadium from the north-west corner is unrecognisable from a few months ago.
Cheers. Been many years since I've been down to Tottenham I'm ashamed to admit so haven't seen the changes.
Ok, fair enough. In that case, I can elaborate further for you.... the club shop on the corner of the Paxton/High Road has gone, as have 90% of the buildings between there and Bill Nicholson Way, and then beyond there to the main club store. So in fact, pretty much all behind the Paxton (North) stand and the Main (West) stand have gone.
I'm willing to bet that we won't start actually building the stadium until after the olympics, and after the olympic legacy company admits it has messed up big time, can't find anyone to take on the running of the stadium without huge public subsidy, and has to reopen bidding for it. Until there is absolutely no chance at all that we might end up building our stadium at Stratford, Levy won't fully commit to redeveloping WHL. Nor should he, in my opinion.
Sure I read somewhere that the supermarket was going to be the first part to be built and started in a few months...... could be wrong mind, I could of even dreamt it. Cant wait for a new WHL myself, the designs look superb. I see Abramovich FC are talking about copying our single tier stand design at their proposed new dogs home.
This is the last article I saw about it: http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/spurs/The Stadium/new-stadium-plans.page
i think we will be ok...we have got proper fans who know how to stoke up an atmosphere and make it a success.
proper fans and an appropriate new sponsor http://www.mysupermarket.co.uk/#/sa...on/beer/sainsburys_basics_bitter_4x440ml.html
If Chelsea move to Battersea I'm penning the phrase 'we'll batter you at Battersea' for when we play them there
