Personally I think suspensions for yellows are utterly ridiculous. The idea was thought up when you needed to do a current red card challenge just to get a yellow. I would drop them totally as well as professional fouls and 2 bookings and only suspend players for violent conduct or something unusual. Although they should never do it for this season as any title would be tainted.
I think it should depend on the offence. A professional foul like Roy Keane's on Haaland should always be a ban. Some bans aren't long enough though many are probably a game or two too long.
What, so persistent foul play, within a match and from match to match, goes unpunished if it doesn't merit a straight red? I agree that it could all do with a rethink, but not sure about this. It would mean that Diakite could have kept on fouling and fouling v Fulham and never be punished unless it was 'violent'. How would you feel if Essien or someone does this for Chelsea this weekend?
3 yellows, but bear in mind to get to the final you play 12 games as you say yellow cards in Europe are dished out like Confetti
This decision is just another reason that Terry behaves the way he does, special dispensation for a ****!...
He would haver still got a red but would have been available for the next game. Im not arguing about the red cards themselves, just stupid suspensions for things like handball, goalie bringing down a forward etc especially when so many players cheat, could you imagine if Derry red card led to him being banned for a cup final? its insane.
I think that comes under the professional foul category. Violent conduct mostly covers stuff that is off the ball like Barton's vicious assault on Bradley Johnson.
No, pro fouls are last man fouls, handball on the line etc which normally only get a 1 game ban. Violent conduct is a 3 match ban like Cisses or Drogbas 2 footed tackles, elbows or headbuts but I dont count Cisse grabbing Johnsons chin as violent conduct so I wouldnt have sent him off or given him a ban for that.
Could you spell this out more clearly ? You have got rid of yellow cards entirely, and for all red cards except violent conduct, there is no suspension. So at any stage of a game, professional fouls abound, dragging people down on the halfway line, handballs to stop passes getting through, because the worst that can happen is a free kick - so you are better doing it well before the ball gets near your penalty area. Shirt pulling, diving/ simulation, abusing officials or the opposition, all have maximum punishment of a free kick?
No, Ive got rid of bans for yellow cards and non violent red cards. Players can still play the next game as long as they dont have 2 footed tackles, punches, head butts, over the top tackles etc. Players would still be sent off as usual. I dont see why someone should be banned for getting 2 yellows or 5 yellows in 2 months, especially when they are now being awarded for things that arent even fouls.
By the letter of the law it is though and Cisse had to be sent off. It's a harsh rule but you don't give the ref much option if you grab players above head height
Oh I know that but the rules need to be changed, violent conduct is self explanatory and that was not violent, neither was Beckhams infamous petulant kick. That type of thing should be a yellow card offence.
I'm gobsmacked with the obsession of QPR fans with Chelsea and John Terry. Its something I can't fathom and never will but honestly, the vitriol and bitterness directed at them on a constant basis is very unflattering and unbecoming.
Have to agree with Swords there;I think it's one of those things that is very local, that's what derbies are all about. You can't be a victim of the same passion unless you grew up with it, and it's nothing to do with your love for the club. You've got to be experiencing those slights and rivalries from a very early age I reckon; we outsiders will never get that.
Spot on Cur, you have to have experienced the pure vitriol between us to appreciate the way it is. Terry embodies everything reprehensible in the game and as captain of the scum he can expect nothing less. The home match greeting they got was pure theatre in it's own right, if you only could bottle that atmosphere...
This. You're right Sooper, you've got to be brought up amongst it to get it I suppose. The only thing I would say and I mean no disrespect whatsoever, is that it does bring the veneer of the Club down a bit when looking on from afar. Its the reason I loathe the ugly sisters of Glasgow for their bitterness towards one another. But its part of football I guess.
