It all comes down to Lambert. He has complete football control here. I certainly don't believe he's making any imminent plans to leave.

If we stay in the Premier League for another season we will probably have around the same size capacity as them within a year or so.

It's not the same, we may have the capacity at an absolute push in 3 years, but we don't have the history of Everton, Lambert loves all that, he's not a plastic go where the money is manager. He likes that encompassing size of a club, history. Don't kid ourselves that we can compete with Everton, we are miles away from that. They are at least 2 rungs up from us in that 2nd tier of size.

timing is everything. if lambert makes his next move too early he could jeopardise his entire managerial career - lambert is no mug. everton are certainly a bigger cub than us but i really think timing is the main reason why he wouldn't go there at the moment. in the future, maybe in two years time, i think its a job which could entice him but not in the middle of his current job. next season is massive in his career - he may fail to keep us up or he may take us forward or maintain our levels which would prove how good he is. agree completely that he is not driven by money and thats a reason why we should be thankful, not worried. i really do not understand the concern - he will move when the time is right for him. you don't have to be a genius to see that its not right at the moment.

I also see the fact that Moyes has done a very good job there, all Lambert could do is the same. With Norwich there is still the potential to make a stable prem side then move on.

unless everton get bought out, which i think they will but obviously not right now, they will stagnate and as you say, moyes has done a terrific job for a decade for very little reward. lambert's ambition does not match that club and thats why i said 'timing' is essential. could be the right club for lambert, but not at this time <ok>

Last two posts from zogean and supers make excellent points. Everton are bigger but their current management are over-achieving which means that the best a new manager could do is the same so big downside and no upside just ask Mike Walker - from Norwich to Everton to the scrap heap.

At least here he has control, the players and management that he wants in place and the backing if things do start to fall off a bit.

i believe everton to be one of the few clubs who could be turned almost overnight into a real massive force both in england and abroad. but to do so, unfortunately, you need to have the resources available to compete and they simply don't. i can only imagine the reason they haven't been invested in by now is to do with their ground- they are desperate for a new stadium and the costs involved will be enormous and maybe thats putting off investors. if i had the odd billion lying around, i'd be very tempted, after norwich of course (!), to invest heavily in everton. they have the history, the fan base, and the potential to go a very long way. plus it'd be funny to see them overtake liverpool <laugh>
