I was in 2 minds as to whether or not to post this but here goes: If the season carries on as it is - Liverpool will have had a better season than us (assuming we don't get CL) Before you all lick your lips and reach for your keyboards, let's look at the season results so far: Liverpool - Europa League confirmed for next season, at least 1 (maybe even 2) domestic trophies. Tottenham - Europa League To me, finishing 5th/6th compared to Liverpool's 8th is largely irrelevant (the difference in money for league position isn't that big when you add in the trophy money) - as a result of this, it's (to me) undeniable that Liverpool (who have been the butt of many jokes this season) will have done far far better than us. Discuss.
If we don't finish 3rd, our season will have been a failure; and I doubt that any of us, now, truly believe we have any chance of doing that. 4th would be a consolation, but most of us would be pissed-off with that, not least of all because we will have relied upon the Toon screwing up, and (perhaps more importantly) it will allow Redknap to crow about "securing" us CL footy, for the second time in our history. 5th would be humiliating. 6th or below would be farcical. We are a team that has been pushing for CL footy for quite a few seasons, which is why anything below 4th will be a joke. As for LFC, only the Mousers believed that they are going to be competitive any time soon. Many of us - myself definitely included - have said that 'Pool won't be competitive for 5 or 6 seasons. The Mousers banned me from their board on the assumption that I was wumming (which isn't a reason for banning anyone, anyway), but I wasn't. I was merely explaining facts. Their club was on the brink of financial ruin, and was saved only because its major creditor - the bank that they had used for so many seasons to try to buy success, and failed - decided to sell the club at a bargain-basement price to a cheap-skate Yanky outfit. They sold their one good player - Torres - for a King's ransom, and their "King" (who should never have been brought out of retirement) spent that money on a stable of donkeys. How on earth anyone can believe that 'Pool will finish any higher than 7th each season, for the next 5 or 6 seasons, is beyond me. But we are different - or, at least, we should be. We have a well-run club, and a far better team than 'Pool, and it should be expected that we will do better. But as the OP has said, if we finish outside the top 4, we will have done worse than 'Pool. Shame on Redknap and our so-called "stars."
Despite our pathetic recent form, Liverpool are currently 13 points behind us. We made a large profit in the summer, whereas they spent a ton of money. If we finish outside the top 4, which looks extremely likely, then they will have had a better season than us, but it will have been extremely disappointing for fans of both sides. They certainly haven't made any substantial progress and they've tarnished their public image quite badly, too.
i agree and i always said it..this finishing 4th phenomenon has made us football fans forget why we follow teams.....their fans have had a day out at wembley, collected a trophy...and are going back. yesterday reminded me of the 90's...just clueless and lacking that class that seperates good teams frm average ones...everyone making noise about Modric and Bale leaving...if they demand a leave i would remind them that they contributed to our demise by being at the forefront of transfer talk and not being firm about their commitment...thm 2 and Harry's selfish intrests. Id be more worried about losing VDV frankly...my player of the season and forever busting a gut for us on the pitch...and actually can boast about his credentials but keeps his head down. never seen a man so clueless on a touchline with no words to give his troops than Hr in the last few matches and especially yesterday...im probably ranting on the wrong thread..sorry Moorph...just havent been around and wanted to vent...but it is obviously a revolution is required because ,us.the common folk know what is better for us it seems. this is pathetic and gutless...and dont forget H or anyone else who runs our club.. 'he plays on the left,he plays on the left' and Lennon 'he plays on the right,he plays on the right' God we are a shambles i was glad to see Ade not start as i felt a few of the team take things for granted but then i saw Defoe's version of a shift lord above even the King has lost his boots unde Harry....says it all...1 point from 9 games....and we are still hovering around 5th...just shows how good we can be to have done so well to have amounted up so many points early on...but only with the right man in charge....Harry needs to go ad take the black cloud that has descended over WHL in the last few months with him.....since the black cloud is his motives, intentions and sincerity...this club was going places Harry...thanks for what you have done for us...ill wear a shirt in your honour which says 2 points from 8 games.....but at the back it says 'im Harry, the fans are not stupid, its me..i didnt realise how to live with a giant of a club...1 point from 9 games, bye!' p.s i know we wont sack him due to a possible windfal from them WUM's the FA.
never seen a man so clueless on a touchline with no words to give his troops than Hr in the last few matches Except Ramos!
rather that than nowhere in the leages or cups! and as fast as we have declined we can improve but not under Harry..we need a pre season with all the personell issues solved.
Waite-a-minute Moorpheus, there's still time for Spurs to... 'piss'... the 13 point lead over liverpool.... 'up the proverbial wall'.... as well.
Van der Vaart says he has fulfilled most of his footballing goals and is happy with life in London. He told The Sun on Sunday: “Even if we don't manage to get into the Champions League that is no reason for me to leave. “Any young player wants to play for Barcelona, Manchester United or Real Madrid. But that is something I've done, and I am now happy at Spurs." The former Real Madrid man also revealed he came close to walking off the pitch during their game with Stoke, which they lost. "During our game at Stoke I really thought I was going to walk off after 25 minutes," he admitted. "They did nothing but batter us, tackle and hit long balls. It is totally not my style, although they got a result with it."
i thought that too..we got to sack him then..because he doesnt behave like hes got the knowledge to lead us forward..and hes going to ruin the best SQUAD we have had in decades.
What worries me is that we look like we were under Ramos after we won the League Cup...... and then had THAT start the following season. Harry "Rent-a-quote" Redknapp keeps harping on about taking over when we had "2 from 8" but that could be his epitaph if he is still here at the start of next season...... 2 points from 8 again.
cultured fella and i respect him and im glad to have read this from him....the man is always busting a gasket for us if you look at the distance he covers on the pitch..lots of respect for VDV.
this is the problem with modern day football fans who are used to competing for nothing but financial gains...they dont understand that there was a time when footballers joined clubs due to the way they played...since trophies cant be guaranteed but playing good football is a hell of a way of improving your chances as opposed to thinking a player has ambition just because he demands 200k from your club every week.
But who are Old Liverpool, with their negative football that required a rule change that hasn't affected anyone else in England, or for that matter Europe? Oh, right, Chelsea...
Where did we finIsh in the league in 1901, 21, 62 63 67 71 72 73 81 82 84 91 99 08....I have no feckin idea but I know we won a trophy in those years and remember all of them since 1981. The trouble with football in top 4 is more important than trophies...its a **** system .... Liverpool have won a trophy and are in another cup final.... Thats a **** load better than us
Belief has to be instilled by the management, especially to a group of players who, collectively, haven't won a great deal in England. Unfortunately our manager tells the press that we're lucky to be where we are, we've never had it so good, and CL is punching above our weight - despite putting together one of the best teams we've had in a long time. So if our manager doesn't believe that the players are good enough to achieve real success, then why should they ?
