Another viewpoint (with which I largely agree) on Morro, this time from
Vital Football. Holt can not single handedly do it for us. Wilbs is 32 - and soon to be out of contract, Jacko works hard running the channels, but is hardly 'prolific' and Vaughan has played about one hour of the season.

One thing that this has made me realise is that top of our shopping list in the summer should be a striker. I heard the usual talk about Steve Morison on Canary Call and was intrigued to hear Daryl Sutch say that offers for Morison had been turned down in January and he was disappointed at not being allowed to go.

I know he had a good first half of the season but if his head has gone down, as it seems to have done, and it`s for this reason then we should just let him go.

Hmmm. This may explain his dip in form, a bit like Adam at Blackpool last season then he should be sold. Get money in for another striker who wants to play for us. On the other hand it may just be nonsense but he is also ageing so sell up and get a young striker in like Rodriguez.

I said a few weeks ago that we need an overhaul upfront in the summer and I stick by that... Wilbs, morison and Martin to leave to fund 2 top notch forward signings.

After Wilbraham's recent performances I wouldn't want to let him go. Shame he was brought off against Man City as I think he was doing a pretty good job.
 
We have to be realistic though with next season, the 3 strikers I named for next season will not be good enough to keep us up! Wages and spaces need to be freed up and a few pennies to spend on strikers that will be good enough.
 
Alby did ok against Man City and deserved his ovation when he was brought off - Morro, despite beiing cheered by most of the crowd when he came on look disinterested - I'd like to have seen Jacko brought on instead bearing in mind Lescott and Kompany aren't the quickest defenders (although Kompany is a class player) and his pace may have offered a different option.

Not sure whether Alby will be here next year although he has done well of late - I think Chrissy will go and maybe Morro might too. I agree that we need funds to buy maybe Rodriguez and one other - let's hope Vaughan can stay fit next season - he'll be like a new signing anyway won't he ?
 
Well I for one will be disappointed if Lambert doesn't off-load both Morison and Wilbraham. Morison was an early season 'flash in the pan' and Wilbraham is not, I repeat NOT a Premier League 'striker'. Lambert isn't stupid, he knows this and I fully expect them both to leave in the summer <ok>

I know I've been going on about the defence but we need to think about investing in some quality up there. For starters we seem to struggle without Holt he has the presence but I would like to see us bring in someone with pace a player who worries defenders.
 
i think wilbraham will stay for another year. he's a wiley old fox and i thought he had a better game than holt on saturday. cheap wages, experienced, popular in the dressing room, why the urge to get rid? useful player, very useful to us. we certainly need a fresh, new striker to come in, even if its just to keep others on their toes - that'll be important.
 
Yeah, if he can hassle the Man United defence then I would keep him in the side. It's not like he's been playing badly recently. I think it's just that he doesn't get many goals and people don't realise he isn't that sort of striker, but that's fine.
 
I thought Morison was disgraceful on saturday, I've been moving round the stadium this season, changing seats with friends etc, on saturday I was in the N&P to the left of the goal, the first ball passed down that side for Morison after he came on.... he gave up on!! He didn't try to put the defender under any sort of pressure, he just stopped. This is his problem, if it's not directly to his foot or head he just can't be bothered. He walked straight off at the end, no acknowledgement of a crowd that stayed almost in it's entirety to applaud our battered team off.
I to was surprised what Daryl Sutch said, I initially thought he was talking about Wilbraham who we do know had offers, still not sure anyone would want Morison with his current attitude.

Which is potentially a real bummer. Morison with his attitude and Vaughan with his (almost) perpetual injury(ies) are clearly not adding anything to the squad dynamic.

As well as taking up places in the 25 man squad which could be utilised more, erm, fruitfully? I know no one 'wants' to be injured and the physios work night and day to remedy this, but Vaughany had a catalogue of injury lay offs well before he joined NCFC.

It all looks a bit weird to me.............

I saw Morison in the Wigan game and he looked so disinterested but when the ball was crossed to him he always managed to seem to get on the end of it, almost scoring right at the end.

He doesn't look like he is trying though? He doesn't chase back or hassle the defenders as much as Holt or Wilbs. You would think that given his age and career he would be chomping at the bit in the prem, something Lambert has rellied on with most of his signings.

To be honest I don't know what is going on with him, but I would really like to know. Maybe it's a Steven Smith situation where he can't settle in the region and is finding it difficult to find peace here.

Did he really want to leave in Jan? Why? What's going on? There must be something not quite right. It's probably going to be one of those situations where he will leave and we will find out afterwards. Got to thank him for the goals though as without them things might well have been a bit different at this stage in the season.

Also Vaughan has proved to be a massive dissapointment so far I know it's not his fault etc...... but for next season I feel we may need a more reliable option. He must be in last chance saloon now, can't see any other prem club taking a punt after his injury record.
 
fans are fickle. morisons body language has not changed since the beginning of the season. he always looks pissed off and he doesn't chase lost causes - this was the case earlier in the season. however, he was scoring goals. now he's stopped, he's become **** apparently. i'm not happy with his lack of form and he's (rightly) slipped down the pecking order, but i heard people around me boo him when he came on! disgraceful. i'm not too sure i'd be that keen to give my all if i was booed by my own fans when i came on.

as for vaughan, we all had doubts about his injury record and whether he could get through a season. last year he didn't miss many games at all for palace and looked like he'd turned a corner. thing is, from the fleeting glimpses we've seen, we can all see the potential of the lad. i'd say he's our best striker ability wise but keeping him on the pitch is a problem. he's got another year on his contract so we have to hope he can stay fit cos he could offer us something special.

Interesting, I can think of one, probably the most (in)famous one in the last 3 years?!

I really don't get all the hate for Morison from Norwich fans. Just to put things into perspective, he has scored 8 goals in PL this year, the same amount as Suarez and Welbeck, more then Bendtner, Long, Zamora.... that's not exactly bad company. He has scored against Arsenal, Man City and Newcastle. Why would we get rid of a striker with that sort of record?! Yeah, he's not been performing at his best recently but if anyone can get him back to his best, surely it's Lambert? Earlier this season he was dominating defences all by himself. Lambert has changed tactics / formation more for the second half of the season which has meant Holt has been used more predominantly as he is more suited to the role required. Morison has been used in a camoe role which is never going to help a striker build confidence and rediscover good form. I'm not suggesting he should have been given more game time, Holt has been exceptional and Morison is obviously out of form, but nobody stays out of form forever. He has already proved over the last 3 years how good he can be when in form.

If you look at the teams at the bottom (with the exception of Blackburn who have a whole host of other problems) they are there because they struggle to score goals. Yet people are suggesting we sell one of our two strikers who has actually scored goals this year? I agree that we need to get another striker in over the summer, but getting rid of Morison just doesn't make sense. As the writer later says in his article

And who was it that 'single handedly' (awful use of the phrase from the writer, all the team deserve a lot of credit) saw us through the first half of the season, yeah, the guy who got a goal or assist in 10 of 13 games, Steve Morison. Some people seem to have very short memories!

And finally on the point of offers being put in for him in January, I thought the ruling was that you couldn't have a contract (not including loans) with 3 clubs in 12 months?! Throws a lot of doubt on that rumour.....

If he played for Millwall at the beginning of the season, which I believe he didn't, then the rule would be relevant.

But he played for Millwall at the end of last season and obviously us at the start of this season, which would mean in January he wouldn't be able to play for another club as it was only 6 months since he last played for Millwall. Therefore making it pretty pointless for another club to put a bid in. I would also be very surprised if a 'bigger' team put a bid in for a striker based on 4 months worth of performances in the Premiership. Other then Everton no-one was desperate for a striker, surely they would wait until the end of the season to buy him?
