I'm not going to complain about the result today, even the injustice of their second goal doesn't excuse our total capitulation in the second half of that match. The issue which I would like to bring up is the disgraceful behaviour of a minority of Chelsea's fans prior to today's match. I have often read comments on here regarding Chelsea's 'classless support', however have always taken this label with a pinch of salt and not been drawn into regurgitating what I thought to be a baseless stereotype. What I witnessed today at Wembley has totally altered my view of this label, I now regard it to be entirely justified. I hadn't managed to get hold of a ticket to the match today, so when a Chelsea supporting friend of mine rang me at lunch time today offering me a seat in the Chelsea end I cautiously accepted it, it wasn't ideal but seemed preferable to the alternative of watching alone at home. I now regret going to today's match not because of the disappointing result, but because I witnessed the single most despicable lack of respect I have seen from any supporters in a lifetime of supporting numerous sports. Those who were at the match today, and possibly those who watched on t.v. will know that I am referring to the chanting by sections of the Chelsea support during the minute's silence prior to the game. A moment which had been intended to pay respect to the memory of 96 football fans and 1 football player was marred by the idiotic and disgusting chanting of "Murderers" by a section of Chelsea fans. From where I was sat in the corner I could hear two distinct groups of supporters who were continuing with this chant, both of them sizeable, and while it is true that there were attempts to 'shush' these animals by many other Chelsea supporters, these were nowhere near forceful enough in my opinion. I hope the relevant authorities are able to identify the offenders and ban them indefinitely from future sporting events, their actions are inexcusable; they have embarrassed not only their club, but also ours, and have damaged the reputation of this country's football fans in front of a global audience.
What did you do when Bale scored? What you did was not smart at the best of times, but especially with the Chelsea lot around you.
Yep, classless. I'm sure the FA will be quick to hit them with a big fine in the morning. That'll show someone... maybe.
Swore more than any of the Chelsea fans and winked at my mate! Am able to stay quite restrained when I want to be, was gutting not to be able to sing along with the lads though (fortunately Chelsea don't have many songs).
You specificly said 'minority' so why are you blasting all of us. Ffs every club has it's ****ers, ridiculous how we all get banded with the small amount who are mindless enough to chant this ****e. Pisses me right off
there's also a post by a spurs fan on twitter saying they were making hissing gas noises on the train which they said 'were Auschwitz' sadly that one isn't even new cos they've been like this for my whole lifetime at least, sadly their 'prawn sandwich brigade' hasn't been able to push out all their supporters just yet
Don't really understand this, how do I 'blast' all of you when, as you say, I said 'minority'. What is sad though is this minority wasn't 1,2, or even 20 fans, I'd say it was closer to 100, and the attempts to silence them by the rest were pretty poor.
To be fair, if there are a group of fans making these chants, its going to be rather intimidating for even the chelsea fans that don't agree and is your average chelsea fan going to try and silence a group of "thugs" not likely. I would expect most Chelsea fans would have been thinking "please shut the f up" but you cant expect them to try and silence the thugs.
.... what's your point? I have already made the point that it was a minority. Compare this to the 0 idiots in the Spurs section and it speaks volumes.
You're free to interpret the title however you choose. I'll admit it could be read that way, unintentionally. I never really concentrate on titles, and was initially debating including at the end a more general account of my experience of sitting in the Chelsea end (until I lost the energy).
Fair enough but you stated your opinion of us Chelsea fans changed because of a minority, that was my problem
The timing of the match didn't help. Idiots who've been in the pub all afternoon tend to make bigger pricks of themselves than they would otherwise. Shoddy though.
Chelsea apologised for the behaviour of their fans at Wembley yesterday. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17723677
As a Chelsea fan I was disgusted at the behaviour of a miority of our supporters. However, wasn't it a group of Spuds fans who were hunted down and arrested after disgusting abuse of Sol Campbell at Portsmouth a few years back? The point I'm making here is that ALL clubs have a brainless minority, not just Chelsea.
I think the point is that a vocal, classless minority of Chelsea fans have embarrassed the majority who, I do not doubt, are respectful of the victims of Hillsborough and the need to reflect on the tragic death of Morosini. As Drogs rightly points out every club has a small section of fans who will chant seriously deplorable stuff at games. Even though it is doubtless an extreme minority of Chelsea (in this case) fans who did it it still reflects badly on Chelsea football club and English football supporters as a whole, in the same way that Porto, it's fans and Portuguese football culture is cast in a negative light by the abuse of Balotelli, etc. etc. As with so many things in society, sadly the views of a vocal minority (who are in this case and many oher cases completely wrong) are being bought into focus when the majority of Chelsea fans and people within the English game just want to get on with the football. There's a difference between believing that perhaps two London clubs should not 'have' to observe a minutes silence in memory of Hillsborough every year (not necessarily my view but one I have heard expressed) and actively disrespecting the rights of others to observe this silence in respect of two tragic events. I know I'm perhaps saying things that have already been said here but I just wanted to add my 2 cents
Considerably more songs that your lot!! You have about 2 right? Chelsea 'fans' who didn't observe the silence are a disgrace. Shame.
Some people at stadiums are just tramps, you get tramps everywhere including football grounds, I don't think it should be labelled Chelsea fans but rather Tramps, it is their individual sh!t upbringing and ignoorance that produces such behaviour. The majority respected the minute and only a minor few were less than decent human beings.
On the TV the sound was muted. However, the real picture of SOME of the Chelsea fans was despicable. I know it was only a minority of them. BUT as this video shows it was way more than an acceptable amount. Absolute disgrace to football.
