All my money is spent on my furnace in the basement and at the local DIY shop. I'll be ready and so many other arn't so it's going to be down to me to save the world I guess.

No, they didn't. It has always been considered round. An ancient Greek philosopher (can't remember who) proved it about 1500 years ago, by looking at shadows on the moon and proving that only a sphere could make them. All Comlubus did was think that it was a lot smaller than it is.
