Brett Ormerod used to run about for the entire match. He was unconditionally loved by Saints fans. I used to love what Kevin Philips did. Each player has their job to do. Ormerod's was to keep the opposition defence on their toes. Philips' was to score the goals, which he did very well. He wasn't universally loved. Nowadays, Guly has his job to do, which he does very well, in the main. He suffers the same inexplicable patchy appreciation. I don't understand it. The guy is a Saints player and Adkins thinks he's great. Logically, that should mean he's good enough.
I was at the game yesterday and didn't hear one boo regarding Guly. There was lots of cheers as Lambert was going off and the applause continued as Guly entered the pitch. There is never wholesale booing at home games with Guly. The ovation at the pompey game when he came off I don't think was in a 'hooray he's gone off' way, and the majority of fans don't boo him at all. I think if he was disheartened after Palace then perhaps that is more something inside his own head than something that is actually going on.
However, I was quite shocked when Guly put no attempt in at all to chase down a ball towards the end of the game, leaving Sharp to bust a gut to close down the defender. Sharp was staring at Guly and realised he wasn't going to do anything so had to do it himself, even after Guly was a fresh sub and Sharp had played a good 80 odd minutes. Perhaps it's not just a section of supporters that don't think Guly works hard enough?

As a brown skinned fan I've certainly never had any directed in me either with my ST in the Kingsland North, nor anywhere else I've ever sat. I've sat next to a lot of morons who know little about football, but never a word of racism directed either at me or any player.

I like him he adds the thing no one else one the team does; link up play. That's why NA almost always picks him. Also, he's not as "lazy" as people make out. Sure he dosn't run about like a headless chicken after balls he knows he won't get too, but why should he. Watch him over a full game and you'll see he does run when he'll reach the ball, and he does track back defensively when he can as well. He does work hard, he's just intelligent as well - our more moronic fans need to learn to appriciate that rather than chant "steeeve" just because the bloke runs about a lot (but achives nothing). I'll tell you one thing, Guly is a much better all round footballer than SDR; why that man is a cult hero to the Northam, I'll never know.
Given our history, you'd think saints fans would appriciate "lazy" looking, slow midfielders who's prefered position is playing behind a front two more than they do. The man would certainly walk into most championsip squads; especially given his versitility.

We can speculate but will probably never know why Guly tried to stomp off and no doubt if there actually is an issue Nigel will deal with it in quickly in house. We should all just get behind the whole team/squad/club. As Nigel would say

Will be interesting to see if Guly plays a part against Reading? Will Nige think he is in the right frame of mind for such a big game? Will he himself think he is in the right frame of mind?
And just what does Nigel know that gives his football knowledge greater credibility over a bunch of chanting morons who can't see talent when it is staring them in their ugly faces?
This booing and getting on Guly's back does my head in and even more so when you challenge the person for they can offer no explanation as to why they are doing it.

I can hear the blokes that sit behind me now shouting and jeering had it been Guly but as it was Chaplow so not a murmur.
It get's on my nerves. There is a Little Billy Sharp negativity as well. At Reading When Lallana sliced a longranger miles wide, the people sat behind me said "was that, that sharp, again" - I couldn't help but say, no it was Lallana. Does it not deserve the berating you were about to give, now you know it's him. I guess, it's just unlucky when Lallana does it.
I thought Guly came on and played really well on Friday. He moved around to collect the ball and spreaded it around really well. He did what Cork was meant to be doing. Some people are morons hence why they boo him but it does not make people racist. Jesus, stop being so sensitive.
I hope the booing isn't a racial thing but I am certain it is an irrational thing. Guly is bloody good and we owe him a lot for our success this season.

If you have played the game then you are looking for the different players and where thay are as you would if you were on the pitch yourself. You are also looking at the positioning and movememnt of the opposition. In that way you get to see the various ways in which people contribute to the game. On the otherhand people who have never played just follow the ball and miss everything else. This is why I hate watching football on the TV. You miss the very subtle ways each player contributes to a game.
If you ask those who have played football they will tell you how good Guly is.

I think it has more to do with whether you like the player or not. I like all players as soon as they pull on the red and white and I want them all to do well, so I am probably quite blind to a lot of things. Lallana will be forgiven any error because he's earnt a lot of brownie points, but poor old Guly seems to be out of favour.
