My sister is planning a fundraiser in aid of my mother, and cancer research, on the 19th May.

My mam unfortunately has terminal cancer, which is obviously absolutely devastating but we're determined to do our best for her in the remaining time she has, it could be years, we don't know, but we want to do new things, and my sister is running for her in the GNR.

We're having an auction at the do. We've had a lot of prizes donated to us, some very good ones. A plane ride, sports massages, memberships for leisure centres, 2 fit camp passes worth £100 each, and a lot more.

I had an idea of donating a Sunderland away ticket for next season, obviously not knowing when it is, but would people bid on it? Would you? Obviously for many, they'd love to go, but just can't get a ticket. But if I can guarantee a ticket, even sacrificing mine if I had to, which is unlikely, would people bid on it?

We're also trying to get in touch with NUFC to get a signed shirt, and with any luck, ive heard we can get players for about 15 minutes or so, or even Pardew, who does a load of charity work. We've sent letters and with any luck we'll get replies, but does anyone have any other ideas of how we could get in touch? NUFC have been poor in the past for things like this, but we're hoping if we keep trying to get in touch then we may get somewhere.

Does anyone have any ideas of places we could try to get things donated, or even discounted price so we have things to go in the raffle?

Cheers for any responses.

Anyone that might be kind enough to donate may do so on the link provided, please read our story.

Or, text IPHC88 and your donation to 70070.

Try small businesses, which would love to donate not just to help raise awareness for their own business (which I know isn't the point) but giving more awareness that cancer can effect lives such as yours. Why don't you try the Newcastle Memorabilia shop in China town. Could give a few restaurants down grey street a call. Suprisingly I dunno if you have a venue or anything but you could try Grosvenor Casino as they have a good event room.

Firstly, sorry to hear about your circumstances mate. I had exactly the same thing last year and also did the great North Run.

Sporting memorabilia is big business so I'd suggest doing some of the following:

- contacting Durham and maybe Yorkshire cricket club for a signed team photo and possibly memorabilia
- contacting several players at NUFC directly for them to send you signed stuff
- contact the FA to get signed stuff
- contact Real Radio to get the legends to sign a few balls for you
- contact SAFC for signed stuff too as when it comes to charity the north east is one big amily
- write to the heads office of lots of hotel chains to get free nights away to raffle
- contact Sunderland Dogs to get a couple of free places at the dogs
- contact various celebrities to try to get signed stuff together
- local restraunts?- one or two down Stowell street may provide a free meal for two to help the cause
- contact Alan Shearer to get hold of a signed shirt (they will be cheap shortly so you could buy a couple and post to him)
- a car wash day at a shopping centre where you wash peoples cars for, say £3 a pop
- collections - pop down the Metro centre on a Saturday (write to them first) and rattle the bucket
- newspaper coverage... try ot get some PR by inviting journalists to write about your story... you could also showcase the online giving page and also see if local businesses will help

Finally, make sure your sister sets up a just giving page.... then post it in here and the SAFC board as I for one would like to sponsor her (I'm sure a few others would too).

May even see her on the way round.....

Hope this helps mate.

I organise a charity auction in Newcastle every year mate (Jeff Fest) so have a bit of experience at this.

NUFC can be a bit tricky when it comes to blagging. I managed to get a signed shirt last year but that was due to our lass working with John Carvers cousin. The best way to get a signed shirt is simply buy one and catch the players as the leave training, they will be happy to sign.

The best way to get businesses to help is to balls out ask them. Emails rarely work but if you call in or phone and speak to manager/PR you will be surprised how generous they can be.

Oddly the most generous companies I've dealt with have been Middlesboro FC and WWE!

Might have a scrounge through some of my old programmes and sort some of our Cup Final ones out for you to include in any jumble sale you might have. Got one Man Utd programme signed by Harry Gregg and Tommy Taylor, might not be of a lot of interest to our mob but Man Utd fans would be very interested in it.

So sorry to hear that mate , I'd be willing to bid for a thing or two when this things gets underway.

I think the mackems ticket and getting the players or Pardew to come should raise some money.

ACS made some great suggestions as well , try some of them?

Good luck and stay strong!

Also think it would be worth trying Newcastle Falcons (Rugby) and Newcastle Eagles (Basketball) maybe supportive. Sorry to hear about your mother's terminal cancer Badger.

Really sorry to hear that mate .. It's not much but if any of your friends or family work with the public (pubs, sport centre's etc) they should be allowed to put up their own collections tub, with a few posters around to tell the story as to why they are collecting. My friend did this before and made quite a bit.

If i wasn't in such a bad financial situation myself i would gladly make the trip to newcastle and help out.. Stay strong !

Sorry to hear about your mum.

I'd have thought Twitter would be a good place to start.

I'm fairly sure Newcastle have got a few players on there I know I've read some of Danny Simpson's tweets before. I'd suggest firing a few tweets over to some of the players and asking them to sort out a donation of some sort, such as merchandise. A lot of players do a lot already for charity so I wouldn't expect too much in terms of them turning up at an event, but they're generally more than happy to sign shirts/balls etc.

By the way Badger, I'll sponsor your sister for £2 a mile in the GNR.

If everybody just sponsors her for a little, that could be a good boost to the fund.

If you need any more help mate, PM me your number and I'll talk you through it but it is there step by step... No c card details needed..

Just wondering if its worth putting this up on the mod board and asking the other mods to ask for support on their relevant boards.

Well said that man! A cracking idea.
I'm sure the wider community will help out a great cause.
