Yep, completely agree. Anyone who actually watches Guly off the ball regularly will know he isn't lazy, he just doesn't sprint after lost causes. His off the ball work, especially in attacking moves, is class.

Gonna cost a fortune to replace him if he goes. Class Prem Quality players don't come cheap so makes no sense to lose one you already have. Those fools need outsinging every time, then giving a good kicking after the game.

Nigel also needs to come out and attack them or at least offer them a forum where he will show them WHY he picks Guly.

I'm 50/50 with Guly sometimes I love him , other times I don't. But Iwould never boo any Saints player at a match. His attitude the last couple of games has been basically him giving up on the fans.

Yes he gets booed, but that's by the minority. He shouldn't let them effect how he views us all. I can't see anything changing tbh and I now think it's affecting how he is with the other players. It's like he dosn't care, which is a shame.

I hope he's not half as sensitive as some of the posters on this thread seem to be. Is a grown man really going to give up on the club because a small minority of fans don't appreciate him? So long as the manager and his team mates back him, I'd expect that to be enough really. Maybe we're all reading too much into a couple of displays of frustration.

Also, I've heard far more chants of "Guly, Guly" than I have boos this season.

I've said several times before that for me Nigel needs to work on Guly's thought process if this is at all possible. He does tend to ball watch at times. Often I'll watch him in a build up of play and he reacts when the ball comes his way rather than anticipate.

He contributes a lot to the team though and shouldn't get the stick he does.

Nigel has always rated Guly and supported him, but what support does he have personally. Does anyone know if he has family with him? Some of our players are family men and you hear via twitter of other single players going out in a group, but there is never news of Guly. I just wondered if he's not a bit isolated, not really fitting in with any subgroup within the team.

Don't like the sound of disabling his facebook, but glad he has his family with him.

If I was a footballer in another country where I couldn't speak the language, and the fans were booing me I know I wouldn't want to applaud them and want to be there

I don't think people realise how hard it is for Guly being here

Guly has chipped in with vital goals and assists. the majority of the season he has been played out of position, not exactly easy to play RM as a CAM/CF type player that lacks a bit of pace. He has tried his best and been made a scapegoat for some reason.

As far as I'm concerned a lot of the hatred for Guly is because he is black and foreign.

Bollocks. We've had plenty of popular black, foreign and black and foreign players at Southampton down the years. A minority simply don't like him because he can come across as disinterested and lazy. I've heard many fans moaning at Guly in many games, but it's never been racial. Can we please stop perpetuating this myth.

But seeing as it is a small minority who consistently boo him, who can be sure that there aren't one or two racists in there starting it all off..? I wouldn't rule it out entirely.

Yeah but it's the minority, if I was him i'd make a point of going over to the fans. It will just alienate him even further, some fans that haven't booed etc views will change.

Granted it could be for a few, it just pisses me off as soon as a non white player is booed etc the racist card is brought up.

True it's a minority, but it's the minority who are sticking out to him right now and I think thats sad

I feel really sorry for Guly, he just doesn't deserve the hatred he is getting (nor does any of our squad for that matter)

OK, it was me who misinterpreted someone else's post. However, football crowds have some pretty intolerant people in them. We sit only a few yards away from them every week. They shout their abuse, for le god knows what reason, because it doesn't help, and then they leave the ground to probably go and verbally abuse someone else. Some are really nasty with it, others just want to get their frustrations off their chest. There's a mix and mash of everyone in a football crowd. Even racists and xenophobes.

There are nasty people in all walks of life (thankfully the minority) and in football they can hide in a crowd. I bet they wouldn't take Guly on face to face. And whilst I also don't like having the racist card played, there is no doubt that for the minority who are racists it gives them the opportunity to slag off a black man whilst hiding behind the screen of football critique. You aren't racist because you don't like Guly's style, but there is no doubt that some of his critics are racist.

I don't think its primary racism, more racism creeps in when a black/foreign player is seen to not be pulling his weight. If the above chants were actually said (which I won't repeat) how can you say racism doesn't play a part?
Guly can be inconsistant but is enigmatic and has class, he may prove a real asset in the PL.

Also watching this clip can we get off butterfields back? he hasn't had the run of games richardson has had. And wasn't there something about a good cross yesterday at pallace? Ending in a goal?!
