I know we already have a thread about Guly but this isnt just about that. We go on about our great attendances but how many of these are actually people who get behind the team and support our team? I sit in the northam for the atmosphere but the amount of people around me who just literally moan the whole game is beyond belief. They were saying how its a disgrace that we wernt beating a relegation threatened team and all this nonsense, one of them even said fox had useless deliveries all year<doh>, you can guess what they say about Guly. Last year I sat in a different spot and the people around me chose Kelvin as a target the man who turned down west ham to help us out of League 1, the man who saved us being relegated by christmas the season we went down from the champ. The northam often just shuts up when the chips are down and Ive heard booing several times this season which for me just beggars belief.

So the question is do we as fans deserve the prem I know most of us on here arnt like that and its not everyone but I dont think the negative fickle boo boys are that small a minority. Perhaps a club with fans who appreaciated a turn around like ours would be more deserving?

The boo boys are vastly outnumbered and, as the team seem to appreciate the fans, we must assume they are not picking up on negativity (except poor Guly, see other thread). If people are moaning this year, they had better toughen up because promotion will inevitably mean fewer victories and some very tough days indeed. The team will really need us then.

It's a tough one , our expectations are high and to be fair they should , the " we deserve better" is thrown about by a lot of clubs but we truly are a club that has been through the grinder and whatever people say we as a club always turn up through thick or thin , does the Premiership deserve Southampton ?

I tell you what Cortese, Adkins and the team deserve the PL...the effort they have all put in has been phenomenal.

As you said most of us aren't like that and the few that are aren't even that bad in comparison to hammers fans who booed there team of after a 1-0 WIN at home. We deserve the prem we play nice honest football have a lovely stadium, loyal fanbase, quality players and a stunning youth academy to boot.

I think its more a problem endemic of modern society in general. Unfortunately a decent proportion of all football fans (and the general public) are fairly stupid and deluded people who unrealistically expect and demand perfection. Sit amongst fans of any club/read their forums and you'll see that its certainly not a Saints-specific problem

Yh some good points and of course I know all clubs have the problem. I just though with our recent history all of our fans would just be pinching themselves at the situation we are in, I'm trying to be level headed and not get ahead of my self but at the back of my mind I know we are on the verge of something special.

I admire what the club has done over the last two years, but confess I would much prefer to see them playing Yeovil, Exeter, Plymouth .... These are real football clubs, unlike the squawking peacocks of the "premier" league.

The fact is that this is our happy season...if promoted, next season will be less happy, but in business you can't stay still. If you stop swimming you sink.

Yep exactly we may not see saints win so well and regularly for decades to come. I know its stupid but some of the shine has genuinely been taken off today with events surrounding Guly I just thinks its soo unfair.

I thought about making a thread about it at the end of the year, should we go up, but I might as well say my bit here. There are always going to be those who piss and moan in good times and bad, but no matter what happens going into next year, I hope that the more sensible people don't get taken in.

If we struggle upon arrival in the Prem, it's not a reason to call for the job of the manager who led us to successive promotions, it's not a reason to declare Cortese out of his depth, it's not a reason to get out the knives (to a greater degree than is already the case for some) with the players. It's been a remarkable upswing, but it might not always continue on such a heady trajectory. Don't let a taste of the good cause you to forget that there will sometimes be bad. If we pull a Norwich and vault into mid-table, enjoy it; if we spend all season battling against relegation, enjoy it. These are exciting times regardless, and don't forget it.

Which is exactly what Saints did, and what happened to the club to get them relegated from the PL in the first place. Well, Cortese has said no relegations while he has anything to do with the club, and I don't think he's a chancer or a quitter either. The best way to avoid relegation is to be as high up the league as possible, and that's what Cortese is aiming for.

I understand what you are saying...but football is aspirational, we need some success in our lives, that is why clubs had working class roots and why my generation (and I suspect by your name it's also yours) supported their home-town club. I first supported Saints in the old Third Division (South), it has been a roller coaster but I feel that in general the club is well run....if nothing else Adkins deserves a crack in the Premier....and yes we do have our fair share of moaners but I think Saints fans are great...there is little more emotional for me than just standing with these supporters applauding the team onto the pitch....bring on the Premier league

We're top of the league. So yes, we deserve to go up. Simples.

Nearly agree with you. If we are in the top two after 46 games then yes, we deserve to go up. Infact "deserve" is the wrong word. Every team works and tries hard, but football is all about attainment and achievement. Even if West Ham go up playing a style of football I and many others don't like, they still "deserve" or attain it.

No we deserve to go up to something better than the tacky Premier League!

I think one reason the fans moan so much now is how successful we have been. A bit like Man U/Arsenal fans that complain that Fergie or Wenger are cluessless and their team is rubbish when they lose a few games. We have been so successful that people now expect us to win always, and if not they complain.

I only disagree on one point. It's not a modern phenomenon. I would agree that things have got worse, but then I'm an old git! There seems little understanding of the game they profess to enjoy. I was gutted when that equaliser went in on Saturday, but reflecting afterwards I couldn't deny I'd watched a brilliant game with two teams really up for it.

Do we deserve it? The boo boys, no. The club staff who have put in so much, yes. Those fans who have stuck with the club through the garbage years and kept supporting them, deffo!

    Do we deserve the Prem?

What kind of dumbass question is that?

We've been top all season. Of course we deserve it.
