Easter Monday brings Walsall down to the Valley for our second game in 3 days. Yesterday the Charlton players showed great character winning 1-0 with 9 men over an Oldham side who also had a player sent off. Yann Kermogant got the goal and it was his 10th of the season. Walsall won a massive game at the bottom on saturday beating Chesterfield 3-2 with two goals from Ledesma and one from Mantom.

When these two sides met earlier in the season at the Banks Stadium they played out a 1-1 draw with both goals coming in the first half. Jon Macken put the home side ahead before Yann Kermogant met a Hogan Ephraim cross to score a bullet like header. The hosts were reduced to 10 men when they had Sadler sent off in added on time in the second half, unfortunately the table toppers Charlton found it too late to capitalise on this one man advantage.

Walsall currently occupy 18th place in the league and having only 46 points means they are only a mere 4 points above the relegation places. However their form has picked up lately and they are unbeaten in their last 5 winning 2 and drawing 3. Walsall's man danger man comes from midfield and in the form of Emmanuel Ledesma. He left Walsall at the end of last season but has since rejoined signing a deal until the end of the season. He is in great form at the minute and has scored 4 goals in the 5 games since he returned.

Charlton's Home Record - W12 D6 L2 GF40 GA17 PTS42

Walsall's Away Record
- W2 D11 L7 GF21 GA25 PTS17

Top Three Goalscorers-
Charlton Athletic - Walsall
21 Wright-Phillips - 8 Macken
13 Jackson - 7 Nicholls
9 Kermorgant - 5 Butler

Previous Meetings
Walsall 1-1 Charlton Athletic 10/12/2011
Walsall 2-0 Charlton Athletic 30/04/2011
Charlton Athletic 0-1 Walsall 12/12/2010
Walsall 1-1 Charlton Athletic 02/02/2010
Charlton Athletic 2-0 Walsall 22/08/2009

Looking at the previous results in look like Walsall could well be our bogey in this league, lets hope Chris Powell and the boys are well prepared after yesterdays mammoth effort.

My team to play against Walsall-

Hamer

Solly Morrison Cort Wiggins

Green Stephens Pritchard Jackson

Wright-Phillips Hayes

Subs
Sullivan
Taylor
Hughes
N'guessan
Kermogant

With all these suspensions in midfield i've gone for a Stephens, Pritchard combination as Pritchard can do the defensive work whilst Stephens can be devastating going forward when he's on form. Wright-Phillips was rested against Oldham so he will probably return and I've brought in Hayes as i believe Kermogant needs a rest and needs to be 100% for our next away game at Carlisle.

Even though our recent record against Walsall isn't too good I still expect us to win this game 2 or maybe 3-0 and take us that one step closer to promotion.

I thought Tranmere was our bogey team in this league, is it possible to have more than 1 at once?

Agree, though, re BWP - he was surely rested at Oldham with this game in mind. I just hope those that do play in both games have enough left in the tank.

Pritchard to play alongside Stephens.

2-0 Charlton, Cort to score from a corner and Stephens.

Just making sure that everyone knows that its a 3pm kick-off tomorrow, and also that there are no trains between Plumstead and Dartford - replacement buses. And also that local parking regs are in force - if you park on a yellow, you will get a ticket.

Warsaw have only lost once in last 10 !!

I remember the home game against these last season, one of the worst Charlton performances I have ever witnessed...but that was Parky.

We were played off the park, with their baldy midfielder controlling the whole thing - he hit a great goal, too. Smith?

No repeats today.

The Addicks Saddle Up

Charlton Athletic take on lowly Walsall 48 hours after overcoming Oldham with just 9 men.

An incident packed win, including 3 red cards and 11 yellows, was hailed as “the result of the season” by Addicks boss Chris Powell, as his side overcame dubious refereeing decisions to prevail 1-0.

He will look to continue the surge for promotion on Easter Monday when the 18th-placed Saddlers visit, and a win would take them onto an impressive 91 points. Although that would not automatically secure a top two place come the end of the season, no team in Football League history has failed to do so with such a points haul.

However, Charlton come up against a side renowned for frustrating their opponents, with 11 out of their 20 away fixtures ending in stalemate - the joint highest in the division. They also arrive with a run including just 1 loss in 12, so any hopes of a landslide Addicks victory are eggstravagant at best (excuse the pun).

On top of that, they will have to cope with 3 suspensions after Danny Hollands and Scott Wagstaff joined Darel Russell in the naughty corner following their dismissals at Boundary Park on Saturday. Powell will be forced into a bout of squad rotation, that could see the likes of Danny Green, Bradley Pritchard and captain Johnnie Jackson return to the fold. Top marksman Bradley Wright-Phillips was rested against the Latics, but will regain his place up front to provide a much needed energy boost to a side that has faltered in recent weeks, with 3 losses from 6.

Walsall boss Dean Smith has no such suspension issues, but will check on duo Richard Taundry and Will Grigg, who have struggled with hamstring injuries. He may look to alter his side for a second fixture in 3 days, but is likely to stick with the side that emerged 3-2 victors over bottom-placed Chesterfield. Emmanuel Ledesma could be a thorn in the hosts’ side, after his brace brought his tally up to 4 goals in 3 games, and Stoke loanee Florent Cuvelier, recently nominated for League One Player of the Month for February, will be a threat from midfield.

The previous encounter ended in a 1-1 draw, and the Addicks will venture to avenge a result that ended an eight-game winning run. They should have enough to overcome a free-scoring side that have notched 9 in their past 3 game, even if it ends a run of going over 4 hours without conceding.

Possible Lineups:

Charlton Athletic: Hamer; Solly, Morrison, Taylor, Wiggins; Green, Stephens, Pritchard, Jackson; Kermorgant, Wright-Phillips.

Walsall: Grof; Beevers, Smith, Butler, Sadler; Nicholls, Mantom, Cuvelier, Hurst; Ledesma, Macken.

Prediction:

Charlton Athletic 2 - 1 Walsall

WG.

2-1 to the Addicks! 1-0 H/T Lead! Stephens/N'guessan with the goals...

Wednesday lucky to be infront, Oldham playing well far the better team! But from a absolute peach of a cross from Llera they lead 1-0!

6 Points from 3rd, 5 from 2nd as it stands! A must win for our lads today! COYR

Rocky, as you may or may not know, we've been having our problems with refs in the past few games, and today we have Mr David Phillips who ref'd your game v Orient earlier last month (you won 4-2 i think) - do you have any recollection of him/his performance?

Presumably Green is still ill if N'Guessan is on the right.

Good to see Haynes back in the fold after his injury.
