If he can get us to 8th place from 3rd bottom relegation candidates, into our first FA Cup quarter final in 8 years all inside 4 months and with someone else's team, What can he achieve with a little bit of money and his own team?

    Can't wait for next season.

Whilst I do share these thoughts, let's not build expectations too high. I'm over the moon with mon. Hope we can do really well. It's the most confident I've ever been in a Sunderland manager but let's not cripple him with high expectations for next season.

With our next three fixtures this season could turn into a damp squib! I'd love for us to break the Everton hoodoo this season!!!!!

That should be when the fun begins.
Surely ES will open the purse strings knowing MON will bring in even better players.

Would like to think with a good end of season finish we may get a few more fans back as well for next season

Hopefully, some of the players that wouldn't have come to Sunderland because of the location (allegedly), will come to play for O'Neill

My concern Tony, we seem very good, us footy fans, at building up then knocking down. We have an understandable trait in expecting more than we may be capable of then getting well pissed off when those expectations are not met, and I know its not what you mean Cest or are doing.

When Bruce joined us I remember Quinn saying how he was the perfect fit, I'm not sure any of us really believed that but in O'Neill everything does feel like a perfect fit.

Providing he is given fair backing, I don't expect an open cheque book but I do expect a cheque book big enough to enable him to compete with most then a very good season lies ahead.

What is a good season, well solid top 8 would be a good start and a continuation of the we will win feeling, or maybe more a we will be hard to beat.

Well by the time the summer comes around he will know who he wants to keep & who he wants rid of & also will have a good idea as to who he wants in.

Whether they will come or not is anyones guess. Cant see Short or Marty allowing anyone to hold the club to ransom though.

I am a wee bit excited about it mind.

Success = not being in a relegation fight year after year; having a team that takes pride in itself; seeing 11 sunderland players that deserve our adulation and support; seeing a manager that cares as much as we do in defeat(did you see his aftermatch interview on Wednesday) and victory; to see a SOL crowd back to its noisy best and enjoying a fortress atmosphere; to be taken seriously as a club not just a sleeping giant that once ruled the game but is now a joke figure.

Listening to Ellis Shorts interview several weeks ago I found myself completely in agreement with him. We wont be title condenders in the next 4 or 5 or maybe even 10 years but there is no God given right that we cant ever be. I want to see opposition teams from the top to the botttom of the leagues tread with fear when they come here to play. I want to see a Sunderland team that competes regularly in the top 6, to 10 places comfortbaly every year, not flirt with relegation year on year.

Ellis Short has these ambitions; MoN definately has these ambitions. We have those ambitions and have doen for 40 years plus.

There are no guarantees of any of this but when you have the ingredients right at the beginning, the chances of a bloody good feast is enhanced.

My lips are licked in anticipation not expectation.

If we finish this season strong he really should be manager of the year. Won't happen though.

I think manager of the year should be Rodgers at Swansea or dare I say it, Pardew.

He already is the manager of the season to me kidda. I don't need to see him get some meaningless shiny gong from some FA concocted horseshit.

We heard a lot of talk under Bruce of moving to the next level - for me MON has acheived this as this must be the first time since Reidy's early days that we have got 40 points in March and have had a decent cup run.

As a fan I will be sure that we have consolidated at the "next level" when I spend a season looking at the top of the league and how many points we will need to try and get a euro spot instead of looking at the bottom and working out who needs to lose for us to be safe. The way that things are going that might well be next season.

The rumour I've heard was that agbonlahor and allbrighton are nailed on for £15 mil. That MON will have a £50 mil to spend, guessing some of this would be from wheeling and dealing some of our players.

Martin has tranformed the team and who knows where we would have been had he been appointed last summer. He should give fringe players the chance now and Ji 45 mins one match, and we need a full stadium every home game next season if he is going to spend, so to all part time supporters get down there and get a season card, and if he gets in 2 quality strikers a quality left back and extra defender we could go places next season, And 'come on Everton' for their semi final, and the mags will miss out on europe!.
