Not at all.

What other player can you think of who could dribble the ball past four or five players with an amazing display of skill and then concede a throw in off his shoulder? Or play absolutely terrible and then score a goal as he is about to get substituted, stay on the pitch and win the game single handed? Or change his positioning at a set piece because someone in the crowd told him to stand on the near post?

I can't remember another player who excited the crowd more just for getting the ball - or so disappointed them.

Yeah at times he was comedy gold, but...

Ahhh! It warms the cockels of my heart to think that you will still be singing his name for decades to come because he scored against us! <laugh>
 
In defence of the yoof, I think the players you grow up with are more likely to be legends in your eyes befor cynicism hits you. For instance I would look upon players such as Donowa and Tony Spearing with fondness just beacuse they were playing when I started to go up. For this reason the three Ians, Fleck and Gunn will always have legendary status to me even though historically they may not have stood out as much.
