Not at all. What other player can you think of who could dribble the ball past four or five players with an amazing display of skill and then concede a throw in off his shoulder? Or play absolutely terrible and then score a goal as he is about to get substituted, stay on the pitch and win the game single handed? Or change his positioning at a set piece because someone in the crowd told him to stand on the near post? I can't remember another player who excited the crowd more just for getting the ball - or so disappointed them. Yeah at times he was comedy gold, but...
Grant holt will be the greatest legend of them all. His goalscoring record in this footballing age, belief and being part of this special time. Coupled with that hattrick against Ipswich confirms his place in history we'll sing songs about him for decades after he's gone. Thats a legend right there.
Ahhh! It warms the cockels of my heart to think that you will still be singing his name for decades to come because he scored against us!
Forgive the typo We sold you Trevor Putney in the mid 80's, he was that good I remember driving him up to Carrow Road to make sure he signed!
In defence of the yoof, I think the players you grow up with are more likely to be legends in your eyes befor cynicism hits you. For instance I would look upon players such as Donowa and Tony Spearing with fondness just beacuse they were playing when I started to go up. For this reason the three Ians, Fleck and Gunn will always have legendary status to me even though historically they may not have stood out as much.
