Seeing as how Ricky Gervais is dividing opinion on another thread are there any other comedians that you either love or hate?

Because of shows like Mock the Week and Live at the Apollo (Hammersmith Odeon, get real) there have been hundreds of comedians shoved into the limelight over the last few years and not all of them are much use. Many reputations seem to be built on very little actual talent whereas others are superb.

Here's my verdict on those I've seen so far -

Jimmy Carr - saw him a few years ago before he lost the weight and some of his stuff was right near the mark and funny as f*ck
Lee Evans - The missus got us tickets, probably laughed twice in 2 hours. If you've seen one show you have seen them all and the twat even finished with a song. I thought that sh1t went out with Mike Yarwood.
Peter Kay - big show at the O2, not exactly ground breaking but not the worst I've seen
Billy Connolly - appeals more to his own age group these days, never got to see him in his prime sadly
Alan Carr - I don't think he writes any of his own material, TV cabaret act at best
Kevin Bridges - saw him very early on, showed a lot of promise
Tim Vine - 1st time I saw him I nearly needed hospital treatment, laughed so hard I almost had a hernia. Not everyone's cup of tea but you can't beat a decent pun
Russell Howard - Liked him on MTW but he has turned into one smug a-hole these days
Rich Hall - his documentaries on America are superb, not stand up & jokes but still funny. His books are also top quality too

    Over to you.

Seen a lot of Rich Hall, his stand up is ****ing hilarious...that pseudo hill billy musical element to his act isn't quite up to the same standard though.

Saw Bridges at a Rich hall gig a couple of years ago and he was very good.

Peter Kay - Saw him at the M.E.N Arena last year, the worst night out I'd ever been to...drunkenly arranged with mates a year prior...never again.

    Edit:

Also saw Reginald D Hunter when he was just about to break through, and he was class as well<ok>

Some say that ER's stand-up is very good, while others have said he's too derivative of Jimmy Tarbuck.

I've seen some god awful stand up shows.

Paddy McGuinness - ****ing woeful. Based his set around Greggs the bakers ffs. We don't have Greggs in Belfast.
Russell Brand - Up his own arse **** but he was shagging Perry at the time. Kudos.
Stephen Amos - Token black 'comic'. ****er of the top drawer.
Chubby Brown - ****ing amazing <laugh> Laugh from start to finish.

Seen a few at the Fringe down the years. Jimeoin was quite funny but Bill Bailey was really funny.

    Ho, Ho!

Seriously though you can't beat Laurel and Hardy, Grouco Marx, Morecambe and Wise and The Two Ronnies.

Most comedians since the 80's have been either so alternative that they are not funny or resort to crudities.

How come noone has mentioned Lenny Henry, he's the kind of talent that makes Britain great?

**** off ****. What the **** do you know? Anyone that thinks Bill Bailey is funny is either a twat or more likely a Celtic **** from Edinburgh.

Reginald D Hunter was class when I saw him last year. Anyone watch Ask Rhod Gilbert? Saw his 'flatmate' Lloyd live and he was pretty good.

Person who makes me laugh most though is Stewart Francis.
