I think trouble is he's being selfish on the wings. People forgive strikers playing up front as an out and out striker because fans see them as the goal threat, regardless of who else is on the pitch. The striker is expected to score goals. On the wing, you've got to be exceptionally good to be selfish and still score as you have to beat every player from the wing to the goal before striking, whereas someone up front can take on one or two players or trying something ridiculous knowing he can shoot after.
Just my two cents. Not saying Sturridge should be played their but that's where he excels ala Bolton loan spell, where he can do his fancy dribbling etc and then shoot, rather than doing a Walcott and not knowing what to do at the end of a mazy run down the wing.
Think he's excellent though - miles ahead of Welbeck. In comparison it's frightening. Sturridge only needs the work rate and running of Welbeck to be a far better striker. At the moment he's a little lazy/selfish.
