For me man U is merely shorthand and manure is meant to be insulting - but only to the same degree as Looserpool or Dogliesh. If No One famous wants to make more of it that is both his right and his problem.

I agree and the term man u was around long before the disaster, however, I do understand the need to be sensitive whilst pointing this out.

Munich was a compete tragedy, and if a term such as Man U is associated with Munich, then I will stop using it,

It was only related in that it was and still is a very usual way of referring to the club. The phrase was not coined in response to the disaster.

We have to learn the lesson, we have to call them the mighty Manchester United, Fergie, Sir Alex, not Slurgie or purple nose, Old Trafford is not toilet<ok> And the term Negrito is deffo taboo. The end, goodnight.

P.S Pencil Tache, Sorry I mean Neville is great on sky.

NO!

If you and B4F want to self-censor then go ahead but don't try and lay down rules for every other Redman.

It has been made clear that use of either term is not a reference to Munich or any person who tragically died there. If some United supporters do not want to accept that assurance then that is their problem.

Now if you look again at the Google reference you pasted, It is clear that it is written by a United supporter "The term is only used by other supporters as a complete and utter insult to our club.", It cannot therefore be accepted as fact.

It has negative connotations mate, honest. Why is do we not say Aston V, or man C. Man U Never Intended Coming Home was started by the WBA fans cause they where bitter that Duncan Edwards, a local lad signed for United. So for me, the term is out of bounds. You can do as you please, clearly.

Thought you were leaving it, you are as bad as me. I don't want to argue but I will just ask what I see as logical questions.

1. if the sick buggers used the phrase "man utd never intended coming home" would the name man utd be verboten?
2. Surely the fact that the term "man u" was chosen as the lyric shows that this was the acceptable name before the disaster?

Well it appears the plot thickens: http://www.manutdtalk.com/forums/ma...erm-man-u-disrespectful-offensive-insult.html was even some United merchandise with 'Man U' on it.

"As I have said before, it all boils down to intention and sensitivity.

Other regions like Asia and America are using it freely and nobody feels offended or insulted. But if you personally know somebody would be upset by it, then don't.

Come to think of it, even a complimentary "handsome" can be offensive to some people if they feel you are intentionally being flattering or sarcastic. "

It's like the Suarez case revisited.

Exactly it was an accepted name for them long ago, plus with horses playing a much bigger part in our lives back then the word manure would have been very familiar to most people. Therefore to assume that they were never called manure before the disaster requires quite a stretch of the imagination.

Alright **** you - it's clear you have no respect or any of this so-called class you keep banging on about.

Time to join some of your more sensible posters and leave this site to you guys and the GC scum - take a look in the mirror.

If you are refereing to me, then you may look back on my posts, and you will see I was making a case for why the terms should NOT be used. My consience is clear. By discussing it in a sensible way, which we pretty much have, I have become a bit more educated about the subject and education helps to rule out ignorance. Was never looking for a fight.

FFS Dave do people have to present something as fact to be offended by it ? There is plenty I can say about Liverpool which some fans may be offended by, if they are, some decent people would just accept this, stop using the term and leave it ( Bazray has grasped this ) but it seems some fans won't unless we can prove why it is offensive.

Like Sweats said people can continue to call us what they please.

I don't find Man U offensive for the tragedy ( ie tradegy related ).

Manure has been pointed out as being offensive various times over a long period of time on this site. I don;t for one minute think the fans using it knew what the term ment or intented it in that way. However now it has been pointed out that some find it related to tragedy can't you stop using it rather than making out 'it's their problem' otherwisr this place will go to bollocks as United fans will start throwing terms out and stating that 'thats your problem'.

FFS this is the banter thread. Hopefully WoR hasn't stopped posting due to peoples refusal to accept the term can be offensive whether intented to be or not.

Also note 90% of the United fans on here refer to Liverpool as Liverpool.

Alot of the same fans who you are refusing to accept they find the word offensive, whilst probably not intented, are the same people woh were fighting Liverpools corner the other day - maybe they will think twice next time ?

Cheers Eric. It's a sensitive subject, and like the Suarez case, everyone will have different views, which they should be entitled to. Discusing it in a sensible way, I would say is a good thing, even though it's such a delicate issue.
