Prior to the incident at the start of the season, Seabourne was starting to establish himself as our first choice partner for Fonte. He played excellently in the games he played prior to getting his life threatening injuries and was beginning to look like an excellent prospect. Despite this i see many Saints fans criticizing him and saying he was a 'pointless signing. Was just wondering who sees him as first choice cover for Hoover and Fonte, or who thinks he was in fact, a waste of money. In my opinion he is first choice back up behind Fonte and Hoover and will slot onto the bench after a few games for the development squad, due to the fact he can also be deployed at left back.
I doubt he will be back this season, and Martin will continue as the backup for now - at least he is fully fit and ready when called upon to slot straight in, that'll be vital in the run in (look how long its taken Jaidi & Barnard to come back in)
He was looking very good. As good as Hooiveld has in his absence. Massively improved his Passing and positioning over the summer and was a rock in the air. Cannot wait to see him back. Yes he's had a lay off but he's at an age where he can recover from this and still play at a high level.
I personally doubt Seaborne will ever make it back into the first team. True, he was doing all right before his injury, but three decent games aren't enough prove that he has what it takes, and if we're promoted he'll be well out of his depth. Realistically he was getting starts mainly because our defence was so thin then. Now, at 25 years old he's not going to get much better, and he has formidable competition in Hooiveld. Martin has much more potential in my opinion, and has probably established himself ahead of Seaborne now. That's not to say he was a pointless signing, not at all! He was signed for a modest fee to do a job in league one and he did that.
Agree with the two above. He'll play in pre-season games because Martin will have extra time off after the Euros.
Not specifically talking about Seaborne (see remembered spelling), but I disagree that at 25 years old a defender can't improve. I think defence and GKs can improve with experience.
I think it depends on who's out. If Fonte was out, I'd say Martin would be the first choice replacement. If Hooiveld was out, I'd say Seaborne would have been the first choice replacement but I can't really see him playing for Saints again tbh. Adkins likes right and left-footed centre backs playing together so we can pass it out the back.
Anyway, in regards to Martin, I had a thought - he is one appearence away from 10 in the League which qualifies him for a winners medal SHOULD IT HAPPEN - Nigel needs to get him over that 10 appearence mark if you ask me!
I agree, I said he wouldn't get much better. It's rare, though it can happen, for a player to improve dramatically after that age.
Lambert had to be hustled out during a family meal at a pub because trouble started nearby. That doesn't bearing thinking about! All Saints footballers should be under house arrest, except Lee (because we like his photo blog).
I think your spot on, the lad has done well and was improving game by game. Those people who think you don't improve past the age of 25 are talking absolute rubbish and especially because we are getting better as a team and have better players now. The better the players around you the more you learn and the better you get. There were people looking at him last night and i expect him to go out on loan to get match fit and recalled at a seconds notice if we pick up a knock any where.
