Hugely O/T rant!!!

I clearly explained to him we wouldn't be buying or signing anything at the appointment before he informed me of their "policy". They simply didn't want to see us if we weren't both there.

My old mum threatened to take an ASBO against Anglian Windows.

They fitted double glazing the day I was up in London watching the 1978 FA cup final.

I hate to bring up history but they were still phoning up a good 25 years later.

What he meant was they will quote and then tell you if you sign there and then they will give you some amazingly wonderful deal but only if you sign there and then. THAT is why he wanted you both there, they know if only one was present their little psychological games aren't going to work.
 
talk talk (not the band) are the worse ****ers for cold calling, Last boxing day they knocked on my door 3 times within an hour trying sell me broadband and such like, the 3rd bloke didn't know had hit when i started calling them every name under the sun.

Then to top it off, they rung up within a fortnight saying that we had made an enquiry about broadband, when i said no we hadn't the bloke started to argue that we had! needless to say i told him that i wasn't some old person that had lost their marbles for them to con and that if they phoned or knocked on my door again i wouldn't be held responsible for my actions! (or words to that effect)

I'm afraid tis you who's a bit dim old chum.

Saying its for a quote is a way of getting a foot in the door. They know their best chance of getting a sale is there and then so they'll say whatever it takes to get you to sign up and offer you discounts that you can only have there and then.

Guru Mate - Sign up to the Telephone Preference Scheme <ok> Its free to register and if you get cold calls after that you can take the ****ers to the cleaners! I did and the next poor **** who called me lived to regret it!
 
Cold callers are fun. If they are ask you how you are just say something like 'Oh, great thanks! Got all my shopping done and now off to the pub with a few mates for some pints. How are you?' It really freaks them out!

But after me telling him we wouldn't be committing to anything at the appointment. you would of thought they could of just come over to give us a quote. After all, isn't that what everybody does? We get a variety of quotes, sit down as a couple and decide which one is the best option.
 
I can't wait until they knock on my door again, I'll start talking about the band to them and what is my favourite track. Just to see the reaction i get!

How many times do have to say this.

I made it 100% crystal clear that we were NOT going to agree to ANYTHING on the day of the appointment. I could not of been any clearer.

If they wanted to be rude to me to stop themselves having to come over, then I'm glad they aren't coming.

p.s. I called Everest a while ago, and they were quite happy to QUOTE with only one of us there.

This is the first time I have ever come across this type of sales pitch - if that makes me naive, then I'm guilty as charged.

I have a plumber coming out on Thursday to quote for some other work, I best ****ing make sure we don't both have to be there for that!

This thread reminds me of my time at a North London Poly in the early 80`s.

To supplement my grant I had to take a job.One of my flatmates recommended a cold calling centre selling wall coating.

I went in the first night and found myself surrounded by failed actors.The boss then came up to me and said good luck,at which point he ripped a page out of the telephone directory and said this is yours.

I got the page G.To be more precise I got Ga...............................followed by a Y.Imagine how many people gave me more than one second of their time.

I lasted all of 30 minutes before I was fired.


<grr> No compensation.
 
just to drag this topic towards football for a moment, is anyone else getting annoyed by the calls from the football club regarding the FITC payment schemes? i've told them twice in the past few months that i already pay a fair amount towards the youth and community schemes the club run and they still keep pressing for more. i've told them if they call again i shall pull the plug on what i pay (which isn't much admittedly but its still something which i pay off my own back). its not as if the club aren't already in a stronger financial position whilst we all struggle for work or anything...
 
the are a rubbish company do not use them, wasted a load of time for me too, if they cold call I just tell them they need to speak to my dad and i'll go and get him and leave them hanging til they give up
