The Hammer is having a wobble but should he be given a little time on the bench, to recover composure, or retained in the team to keep his confidence up?

    What do you think?

I'm saying Sulivan. I was actually disappointed he didn't start the season, but Hamer earned his place in the recent months (until the last 2 games). He has received a LOT of stick on twitter so you have to think the past two incidents aren't out of his head.

If the defenders have any inkling that the keeper is lacking confidence, then it will quickly spread. Suli will come in with new energy and hopefully assist in re-building the confidence at the back.

As for who I think CP will start? Hamer.

Is the question who will start? or... who do you want to start?

I'd put Sulli in and tell him he has the chance to prove he deserves the position permanently. It may turn out we need a new 'keeper for next season. Depends how soon Pope's ready, because I see him eventually being our no.1.

We really must play Sullivan. I have no idea whether he is a better keeper than Hamer but the defence have now lost confidence in the latter. Who do I think CP will play - Hamer!

I rate Suli highly - he did a brilliant job at the back end of last season and was keeping clean sheets when we were shipping goals for fun.

Oldham away stands out - it was a brilliant display.

Err, this is the most unanimous poll result we've ever had on here. Hope CP is reading.

No good just "resting" Hamer. What incentive does that give to Sulli? If CP does make the change Hamer has to wait his turn just as Sulli has done.

Put off watching Saturday's 'highlights' until this morning.

    Just voted for Sullivan.

Voted for Hamer, mainly to be awqward.

For continuity purposes, i think it sends out the right message to the team to allow them to have the ability to redeem themselves.
My concern is that you bring Sulivan in and he makes a rickett too, what do you do? After watching him v Orient, i'm not convinced either.

Also, after watching the 'highlights' as Tewkes puts it, i cant really see why that should be the evidence to drop Hamer. The first i dont think he had much chance with ? (anybody in the north who was behind the ball who might be able to confirm?) , and the third Taylor should have taken charge (as Taylor's actions straight after the goal showed) - the others i dont think he could do much about. It stinks a bit of persecution/scapegoating over his one mistake v Colchester.Listening to Ben Roberts on Charlton Live on Sunday night proved that they (the management) believe Hamer to be the better keeper, and said that Hamer was technically brilliant with his feet, and that the Colchester mistake was caused maybe by him being over-confident , and that it wont happen again.
Dunno, i would give him one more game. You can all shout at me on Saturday night. !

Wasn't Notts County their opportunity to redeem themselves after Colu?

Maybe, but do you only give them one chance after the season they've had ???

The highlights do show Taylor was poor on saturday.

That mix up with Hamer alone he had ample (great word sadly under-used) oppurtunity to clear it - including the initial second ball.

That said I agree with SuperChrissy - Sullivan was unlucky not to be 1st choice at the start of the season, I think he has to have a chance now.

1 poor display followed by a dreadful display - I think it's crazy not to think of changing it. We can't keep this starting 11 for the remainder of the season, there are already some very tired legs. I don't think we need to panic or make extreme changes, but Suli for Hamer and one of Hughes/Pritchard/Russell for Hollands/Stephens should help out.

As for the mistakes - Hamer has to take the blame for the 3rd. Keepers like schmeichel would go through his own defenders to get the ball once it was in his box. Hamer should have done the same - esp when he saw Forte gaining ground on Taylor.

Sorry Stu - Saturday's highlights weren't the trigger for that decision, just the confirmation.

Never been a fan of Hamer, as my history of posting on this subject will show - letting in a goal from 30 yards is fair enough - once in a while. As neither seemed to take a deflection, two in two games seems to me to suggest poor positioning and anticipation.

Granted Tewkes. However, has there been any other 30 yarders this season conceded ? I cant think of any.

Dunno Chrissy, i'm still not convinced by this. I think we all agree that our midfield is the weak point - and to me, i could accept changes there - forexample, Hollands in all the games i've seen, i've had to double check to make sure he was still playing- and Jacko looks out of sorts - and Green i just think is a waster.
I'm not convinced that we need to break up our strongest element yet. Its close, but not quite there yet.

Fair enough, Stu. I also think CP will have the same mentality as you and stick with Hamer... but I just think if we have a more than capable reserve and he doesn't get his chance while the guy in front of him is having a mare, then it sends the wrong message to both players.

We have a huge squad, but don't really utilise it.

He's let in two long range shots in successive games! Both were good shots, but, from where I was sitting and from the TV highlights, IMHO he looked very slow to move towards the shots. And the one from the edge of the box v Bury that seemed to go right throught him, and the howler against Colu, the mix up with Morro (I defer to the comment above about Schmeichel) and he had only just got through a spell of games where he flapped at everything that came near him. This is a pretty damning list!!! I like Hamer and he will eventually gome good I'm sure but he absolutely deserves to be dropped. The telling point for me on Saturday, and I was not the only person near me who said so, was that the body language and reactions of the defenders to ham,er's errors spoke volumes. Morro's reaction to the first goals just smacked of "oh no not again!

My worry is that I've not been massively impressed by Sully in the (admittedly limited) times I've seen him. But Hamer has to be given the heave for now.
