I think Cameron Stewart needs a rest. You never know what is going on behind the scenes, but right now he's a long way off being good enough for the first team, particularly away from home. I don't know if it's a fitness issue or if it's an attitude problem what with all the attention from a certain little club just outside Derby, but it just aint good enough. The issue was made crystal clear for me last night when Josh King came on and did an outstanding job for us wide right. The kind of performance Cameron used to do for us. He was direct, he was brave, but most of all he was effective; he has skill and a trick but he won't exhibit that at the expense of getting the job done. Something Stewart cannot say. Stewart needs to be taken to one side, I reckon and to be made aware of what his responsibilities are, as I don't think the problem is fitness related.
Couldn't agree more - was poor last night and an obvious choice for being subbed. He is a talent - I like him but his decison making and desire at this important stage of the season is pants. He started like a house on fire at the away game at Derby and for the next few games after that - probably playing on adrenalin alone after such a long time out. Since then he has flattered to deceive and shows little commitment to the cause at the moment.
A bit harsh I think and still a young lad, Young lads also read these sorts of message boards and reading this won't help his confidence. Anyway that's enough of the footy, Cameron have you got a sister I can shag?
He reminds me of Nani at Old Trafford in his early years where he's as frustrating as **** but you know he'll develop into a great player
I think putting him on the bench for the next match and starting King might be an interesting option. March is a crazy month, and if it takes a bit of rest to get him back up to speed then Barmby should think about it.
Someone told me last night that he was disappointed that he didn't get the Leicester move, it might be true, he's been **** in almost every game this year. True or not, he shouldn't start on Tuesday.
In Stewart's defence, the injury he has undergone used to be career ending. Although the introduction of arthroscopic techniques has made it possible to return from the injury, I think people underestimate what is involved in the surgery and recovery. None of us fully know what's going on there. Its a definite fact that an ACL reconstruction (patellar tendon) impacts the ability to cut. For him to fully come back from where he was prior to the injury will take time and more games. Whether we can afford for him to work through that in the first team is an NB decision.
I hope that's not true. If he wanted to go he could have handed in a transfer request. It is possible that we rushed him back though and he's feeling recently
What do you mean by "someone"? I'm not asking for names etc just wondering whether you mean some randomer who could easily be talking bollocks or someone who has a good chance of being right?
The one difference being that Stewart was anything but frustrating in his first few months with us. And we also know its not his injury because he came back and was a similar player to before.... but it seems as soon as there was some transfer rumors about him, he stopped trying to play...
Stewart's ineffectiveness was blatently obvious before Josh King demonstrated how it should be done. Whether it was mood, motivativation or a lack of form, Stewart was lightweight and failed to show the level of ability required for a first team start. King, on the other-hand, showed a real sense of purpose, a sure sense of skill and a great reading of the game. It's a no-brainer who starts on Tuesday!
I think it's worth repeating that NOBODY knows what goes on behind the scenes and there could be a whole range of reasons why Stewart is not producing the goods. Stewart has all the ability necessary to turn himself into a Premiership quality player, just like Brady, Evans, Dudgeon and Chester. Sometimes people on messageboards are too black or white when in reality the world is grey. However, the bottom line is we are a club trying to gain promotion so as much as Stewart may need time to get over whatever the problem is, we cannot afford to carry anyone at the moment. After their performances in midweek, Nick would be Barmy (see what I did there?) to start Stewart ahead of King on Tuesday.
We all desperately want Stewart back playing the way we know he can. He would make the world of difference if that happened. Im sure this is why people keep on picking him in their line ups on here. This is understandable, but as Strov points out we can't afford to be carrying any one at this point in the campaign.
The only judgment I have made is from what he gets paid for, his on field performance and it was ****ing dire.
On current form he has to be the most over-rated player in the Championship - no end product at all. Hopefully he will come good again but we can't carry any players at the moment. He might be more effective coming off the bench right now.
