It's a quandary really. On one hand we regard a football club as a business, yet on the other hand we regard it as a charity where the owner mustn't make money out of it. Of course, if you're Pompey you regard it as a charity because you don't pay income tax:grin:

Well, actually currently it's the VAT and the 20% of the debt which they agreed to pay, having had the other 80% written off anyway. I think that is a bit more generous than registered charities would enjoy.

I can't believe this, 6 pages in and no aggro at all, it's like a bloody hippy commune on here. ;)

Itsalittlelessfurtherback - I was looking at your avatar and had a question for you. I've heard the infamous "we are the champions, chapions of europe" chant but don't know too much about the events that happened in 75. Care to divulge?

Maybe we should put this thread as an all-year sticky; a shining example of how it should be done. :) :)

Maybe not.

Ironic really, as tempers between the two sets of fans have always been quite fractious at St Mary's, in my experience.

Really? I have been in both ends for this fixture plenty of times & its always passed without a problem.

Ive never seen trouble at St Marys, but then again ive never seen us lose there that could be a good reason for that :)

The women are a bit rough mind due

Basically we was robbed, two blatant penalties not given (the second decision was cringe worthy, Beckenbauer, he featured a lot in this game, scything down Clarke). A perfectly good goal disallowed after been given by the ref and then changing his mind after pressure from Beckenbauer (him again!). If I remember rightly the referee was later found guilty of taking bribes!

Apart from that a perfectly fair result. Therefore we won the European Cup but never got chance to defend it, which obviously means we are the champions of Europe!

I was 7 at the time, my dad let me stay up to watch the game and I remember crying my eyes out at the injustice, probably the reason I still don't sleep too well at night now! Damn those Germans.
