It's quite possible the plan for this season was King would play along Kaboul/Dawson at home, with Gallas switching in for away games - which would work in principle, if not for the fact Gallas has been crocked more often than not this season.
It's time to face up to reality. We need a replacement and Ledley needs to call it a day, the damage he is doing to himself physically may be temporarily recoverable now after a few days, but that cheque will have to be paid in full in later life. Is it really worth turning one of our own into a virtual cripple by the time he's middle aged? We need to go out and buy a top class stopper, preferably with some leadership skills. Ledley will always have a place at the club and in all our hearts but this dependence on him has to end.
He has averaged 17 games a season over the last 5 years. Now he is well 31/32 thats only going to go downhill from here. I really would be shocked if spurs resigned the lad. A top player he was, but its time for spurs to move on and you cant afford to waste wages on a guy who I doubt will play another 50 games in his career from here.
10 games a season with Ledley generally leads to a higher chance of a clean sheet. Yes yesterday he was poor but so was the whole team. I'd much rather we have him for 10/15 than none at all. There's been games where he pretty much single handedly kept out the opposition. He hasn't got the pace anymore but he's adapted his game so well that 9 times out of 10 he knows there the ball will land/ which way the defender will turn etc. He deserves a new contract, not just because he's a club legend but because quite frankly, no defender in our squad is anywhere near his standard. Plus, there's no defender on the market that we could attract that is better or of the same calibre as Ledley in my opinion.
I think that King's main problem yesterday was that he kept getting turned, due to the large amount of midfield runners that Arsenal had, who weren't being picked up by anyone else. We looked totally outnumbered at times.
Shh, saying that makes it hard to single out one player for all criticism. Honestly, if one player has to be singled out, we may as well single out Aaron Lennon - useless bugger never got on the pitch...
Nice try Arse4life. You know Ledders is probably the most matural and CB in the business and we shoulded really be giving you the time of day on this subject. Off you go.
He was quality. He still is. Maybe you should give him a 1 year deal. Knowing you guys you will probably give him a long term deal. You have a history of wasting wages on injured players.
Gallas played 36 times for us last season, so that's clearly not an example of wasting a long contract on an injured player. You've still failed to provide one example.
Woodgate scored the winning goal in a cup final for us, but I'll give you that one. That's, erm... one. Well done. Anyone else or is that your whole evidence for our 'history of wasting wages on injured players'?
I thought it was your turn to name one? I suspect you will give ledley a 5 year deal. Thats if Harry is involved with your shower by then. Harry has a history of bankrupting clubs for short term glory and then bailing. I am excited to see your club in 2015. When was the last time yo made £50m profit? There are loads more constantly inured players you have had but I cant think of them right now.
So you were talking a load of old crap, then failed miserably to back up your point, made a Mystic Mug prediction, talked some more crap and then admitted that you don't know what you're talking about? That was really worth it.
Cheers for the 2nd admission that you don't know what you're talking about. You don't have to keep showing it, now.
Not really. I wrote a response but thought you wouldnt understand it so went with that instead. Lets face facts - ledley is washed up. He is 31 and his knees are only going to get worse from here on out. It would be shcoking to do anything other than terminate his contract after this season.
